Fable II GOTY edition in September

Original game plus two add-ons.

Retailers including our old friends ShopTo and Play.com are both listing a Fable II Game of the Year edition for release on 18th September.

As you can probably imagine, the GOTY version is the core game, which we rather liked, and the Knothole Island and See the Future downloadable content, which we wouldn't kick out of bed.

Both retailers list an SRP of £39.99 and of course both are discounting it, although, at the risk of offending their delicate natures, if you haven't played Fable II yet you could always buy it now for about half that and then buy the seven-quid-each downloadable add-ons later if the need takes you.

Lionhead is teasing a big reveal at gamescom tomorrow, which you will be able to follow in our live text report of Peter Molyneux's presentation from 9am BST / 10am CET. Fable II GOTY manifestly isn't what all the fuss is about.

I should rebuy at some point, just to mop up. I had around £10,000,000 last time I played, which was months ago.

Game of the Year? What? Is that now a synonym for "Bundled DLC edition" ?
  • Alkeno #6 3 years ago

They should not call this edition GOTY... I guess only one game each year deserves that merit (it's not a wild guess I believe...). GoW2 is getting the "GOTY = Game+DLC" treatment as well. It's just a new marketing trick to fool people methink.

Ah cool, I'll treat myself to this... I've been umming and ahhing about whether to get this for a while now.

"They should not call this edition GOTY"

Why not? "Game of the Year" is not a registered trade mark like... the Oscars or BAFTA's.

"Could be classed as false advertising if they havn't actually won a game of the year award, thats why. "

And who gives those awards? Who are entitled to? Me? You? MTV? Eurosport? Are there a list of places which can? Who won "GotY" last year then (and who said so) ?

edit: that was to ilustrate that GotY means literaly nothing. At most it means someone somewhere liked the game. I'm sure Fable has that title.

i supposed this puts to bed the hope of them doing a third DLC...i know they have that Revolution themed title they are about to announce, but i was still hoping

Call of Duty and Bethesda took it in turns for Game of The Year
  • WinterSnowblind #11 3 years ago

They did win Game of the Year awards though, so they have just as much right to release a GoTY version as Fallout or LBP do.
  • metalangel #12 3 years ago

I think the point they're making is the people might buy this under the misapprehension that a Game Of The Year will be good ;)
  • patchbox360 #13 3 years ago

this game got a 10/10 hahaha

Dude, you're improving, two weeks ago all you could say was killzone. Speach therapy ?

I think Game of the Year indicates you can at least make a semi credible argument towards it being the Game of the year. Fable II probably fits into this category, though just barely since it was generally outshined by the Fallout 3 in the same genre. If someone tried to release Iron Man: Game of the year edition I think it would be easy to point out no site that had a readership in even the hundreds had made that claim.
