Extensive CS: Source update in beta

To be rolled out to everyone soon.

Valve has announced that an "extensive update" to Counter-Strike: Source is now in beta testing.

Developed in collaboration with Hidden Path Studios, the update was made available for sign-ups yesterday but all the slots were quickly snapped up.

New features include 144 new achievements, new match and lifetime player stats, updated scoreboards and end-of-round displays, a cinematic death camera, a domination and revenge system and "many Source engine updates".

Server admins can find instructions on how to deploy it on Valve's site and there are more details on the update there too.

The beta is set to run for a limited time and then it will be rolled out to everyone.

oh my god, i was just thinking what a cool game this was.
This mean there's gonna be a CS: Source 2?
That game rocked my college years.

I'm not too keen playing CS, but gotta love Valve for their continuous support for back catalogue!

Yeah epic props for still supporting this game. Probably lost about a year of my life to this game in the weust for perfection. The game has needed a facelift for a long time. Would be nice to see it completely redesigned.

This is how you keep your customers happy. Some companies could learn from this.

    Just isn't the same.

There's still nothing out there which does what Counter-Strike does so well. There's a reason why this and CS 1.6 are still two of the most popular games on Steam 10 years later.

    "New playable team: counter-counter-terrorists"

    WTF?

Never really got into the actual counter-strike modes but do love a bit of GunGame now and then.

Think I'll have to have a ring round of the old clan when this is released.

    Episode 3 would be nice.
CS Source on xbox would be nice too.

An Orange Box 2 on consoles with Episode 3 and a new version of Counterstrike Source would surely sell bucketloads.

Hate to say it but I really don't think Counter-Strike would work on consoles without a mouse. It's very twitch-based and all about accuracy - more like Quake 3 than CoD:MW. It's one of the most popular games ever, so if it would work someone would have ported it by now.

CoD has a popular Sabotage mode does it not which is pretty much Counterstrike and plays well without mouse control.

It would definitely be different but that's not to say it wouldn't work. So long as everyone's in the same boat controller wise it could work quite well.

As for CS and CSS I had to stop playing as I'm now officially "too damn old for this shit". Damn kids with their youthful, lightning reflexes. ;)

Yes, I am quoting myself, but I just realised they did port CS to the Xbox. I don't think it sold very well, but whether that was because of the small install base or just a bad port I don't know.

If only they'd make headshots count only when shot in the head rather than anywhere north of the shin.
  • viper_h #18 2 years ago

If CS:S added ADS and hit markers it would make my day.

I would probably say it would be the install base, but before the original XBL shut down, it was still one of the most played Xbox Classic titles, up there usually around Halo 2 and Battlefront 2.
