Expect more Frank West, says Capcom

We love the Dead Rising man apparently.

We should expect to see Dead Rising star Frank West in more of Capcom's games in future.

That's according to Capcom Unity hero Seth Killian, who told Destructoid that West remains popular even though he isn't actually in Dead Rising 2.

"For better or for worse, [Capcom] Japan has understood that 'the West' likes Frank," Killian explained.

"So maybe that's why he's called Frank West? I don't know...

"Rightly or wrongly [Capcom] Japan is convinced that Joe Six pack here in America love god damn Frank West. He will be making appearances in as many games as they can get him into."

Dead Rising 2 is due out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 3rd September this year. Check out our most recent Dead Rising 2 hands-on for more.

The game's release will be preceded by a special prologue episode, Case Zero, which will be exclusive to moneybags Microsoft's Xbox 360.

    "...'the West' likes Frank"

    Err no...

    ...'the West' likes zombies
  • BigDannyH #4 2 years ago

Do they (Capcom Japan) also think "the West" like Ken?

    Everyone prefers Ryu.
  • Buztafen #5 2 years ago

I dont like Ryu's chin...he needs to shave the stubble.
  • Monkey_Puncher #6 2 years ago

I like Frank West, much better than that Chuck Green idiot!
  • RodHull #7 2 years ago

He's the nearest thing to a charasmatic lead that video games have had in many a year. Especially if you compare to him to yawn inducing dullards like Marcus Fenix, Nathan Drake, Solid Snake and their ilk. And don't even get me started on the Resident Evil boyband wannabes...
  • SAMagic #8 2 years ago

He's certainly the only cross-dressing character I've ever played in a game before. Can you imagine Marcus Fenix mowing down his enemies while wearing a pink dress? Or Nathan Drake exploring while in hotpants?

... Then again, maybe I'm the only one who dressed Frank like that.

Having him in LP2 is laughable.

Frank West? Come on. I loved Dead Rising, but not because of Frank. He's an utterly unlikable halfwit. I got tired of watching his open-mouthed stupid glare whenever people talked to him in cutscenes. And now he's part of the Capcom pantheon? *sigh*
  • wizlon #11 2 years ago

The least Capcom could do it decide on how he should look. Frank West seems to translate to "suit wearing man with camera", because his facial features and build seem to change every time he appears in a game.

Hilarious. He appears in one game and apparently the West "love him"? Further proof that the Japanese are totally out of touch with what we want.

What's so interesting about Frank West?

Seems like one of the most generic videogame heroes... am I missing something?
  • masterson #15 2 years ago

I read it as "Expect more Fred West" which was far more sinister.
  • kinky_mong #16 2 years ago

    I prefer Fred West.
  • TheJuriel #17 2 years ago

Awesome. I know I like Frank West.
  • Invisible_Cow #18 2 years ago

Wrong way round IMO. Dead Rising 2 should have had Frank.. Cameos in other games puts him on the same level as MegaMan. He doesn't deserve that, he's covered wars etc etc.
  • MikeN #19 2 years ago

If Capcom reckons he's so popular then why isn't he in the sequel? I grew to like Frank a lot over the course of the first game. I enjoyed the fact that he responded to crazy situations with 'WTF?' reactions rather than taking everything in his stride like a typical videogame character.

I read it as Fred West too. Now that would be a game that would get banned pretty quickly.
  • Slipstream #21 2 years ago

Frank West Skin DLC in DR2 then.
  • FogHeart #22 2 years ago

    Wesker>West

Wesker is like the Hooded Claw would be if he used hi-tech gadgetry and a magnum.
  • Chazmeister #23 2 years ago

Personally I don't get why they think he was so popular. I didn't think there was anything that made him particularly stand out or appeal to me more so than any other game character.

I suspose it's because he's one of the few "western" Capcom characters that isn't basically just a Japanese character in western drag.
  • metalangel #24 2 years ago

We might like Frank but we hated a lot of things about his game. Namely shit controls, the jeep convicts, and Kent the photographer.
  • steninja #25 2 years ago

Dead Rising. THe best, most important game of that past decade.

A true gamers game that had time management mixed with open world gameplay. Bosses. Zombies. Weapon and item management. Zombies. Multiple endings. Fun.

Frank was sarcastic and funny. Loveable. Imperfect.

Although, I've noticed some knee jerk reactions of people slating Frank because "Japan" have generalised the west and stated we all love him.

I love him. We love him.
  • muscleblade #26 2 years ago

I love a lot of Capcoms characters but Frank wasnt anything special.

We all know he will be in MvsC3.

Chris, Jill, Viewtiful Joe, Ryu, Chun Li, Mega man (ok maybe not, but i like himl) and Wesker are among the ones i like.

Frank West was not a great character in my mind, not even a good character. He was a bit of an oaf and had the most irritating gait I have seen in a main playable character.

Please, Capcom, do not feel the need to bring him out of retirement.
  • Machetazo #28 2 years ago

Got anybody else you'd like to shoe-horn in, to try to sell this game, Capcom - Monster Hunter Guy, Wesker of Resident Evil, the two escapees from a Warhammer 40k movie set, a character that rescued people from a shopping mall zombie infestation.
But, no DINO CRISIS representation though? Come on, sort it out, lol! :/
  • andywilkie35 #29 2 years ago

They're so misguided they probably think the West are screaming out for an Otis spin off.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if it was already in development.
  • alcides #30 2 years ago

Frank is a sexy beast. I loved him.
  • metalangel #31 2 years ago

Readers! What was YOUR favorite Frank West moment? Mine was listening to him making a curious grunt and examining his camera every 10 seconds while he stood in the security room for 14 hours waiting for his life bar to drain, doing the 7 day survivor achievement.
