Exclusive: FFXII television ad

Patrick Stewart on EGTV.

Eurogamer TV is hosting the worldwide online premiere of the Final Fantasy XII television advert this afternoon, which features the voice of none other than the legendary hairless wonder, Patrick Stewart.

His vocals announce the new Square Enix title that's launching across Europe on 23rd February, as a cinematic introduction to the game plays fantastically before our eyes.

If you're getting as excited as we are, then feel free to pop your fancy-dress togs on and head to the London launch event at Oxford Street's HMV, which is running between 12pm and 2pm on the 23rd.

Get in line early enough and you could be rewarded with some game-related prizes, ranging from signed copies of the game to cuddly toys.

We were bowled over with the latest instalment to the spectacularly popular Final Fantasy series, awarding it with the highest possible mark. Head over to our review to see just how pleased we were with it.

Make sure you don't forget to watch that exclusive video. Did we already say it was exclusive?

I wonder why Patrick Stewart has suddenly gone into all this voice acting? Last I heard he was doing a run of The Tempest for the RSC. Now he's on Family Guy, American Dad and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as well as this. Maybe he's just getting greedy. Should've had Brian Blessed for the ad. :-D

Blessed isn't the right fit for FF - he'd be perfect for Dragon Quest though
  • Steroyd #4 5 years ago

OMG Patrick Stewart is like being touched by God.

I thought the ad was great, should sell a few copies. I do think he makes a great voice actor! :)
  • NoCodeNed2 #6 5 years ago

I saw him in The Tempest at RSC - much fun it was too. (he were pretty good 'n' all).

OMG! Thank you sooo much Eurogamer. I'm been trying to see this ad these past 4 days and I haven't been able to - shows how great a job Square Enix are doing at advertising this most sacred of games. Again, thanks

OMG, it's brilliant. Patrick Stewart and Final Fantasy ftw!
  • Xerx3s #9 5 years ago

Wow, I thought he couldn't make shite voice-overs. Guess I was wrong. :/
  • Repsode #10 5 years ago

Proof if ever there need be that a good voice needs a good script.
  • rodpad #11 5 years ago

Yeah, shame all the voice acting in FFXII is fucking appauling.

I've seen better more interesting voice acting in a BBC period drama dullfest.
  • vapour #12 5 years ago

I just saw this on TV, sounded much better with full surround-sound. I think he sounds great on this, and far better than chris Tarrant doing brain training
  • dolphan #13 5 years ago

Oh dear. What an awful voiceover, although the actual shots are impressive - as you'd expect from FF FMV. Anyone remember the FF8 TV ad? That was drool-worthy.

    @ProtoformX

    "Maybe he's just getting greedy."

Man, you are making that vein twitch in my neck again.

Where did we the public get this idea that actors and actresses don't actually make their living from acting? Its what they do, its how they pay their bills. Yet still we accuse them of "being greedy" because they work? Would you accuse a gas fitter of being greedy because he fitted a load of radiators?

They are dead greedy at my local petrol station, open 24 hours selling petrol, money grabbing shits.

P.s. I realise you were maybe being sarcastic. If that is genuinely the case... I'LL STILL KILL YOU!!

Stewart and Blessed were mates at the RSC together, that's why their stentorian deliveries are so similar, except Blessed is A LOT MORE SHOUTY!

Brian Blessed is a true gem. He is also one of those people that when he goes senile through old age, noe one will be able to tell (actually, I think he is already tripping down that particular garden path, humming a bonkers tune).
  • kangarootoo #18 5 years ago

I think that was mostly down to the pants they made him wear.

Blessed's a bloody legend too. More boomy voices in games prease!
  • ProtoformX #20 5 years ago

Kangaroo: No I wasn't being sarcastic. Maybe my view of the world has got a little too jaded - I'm tired of working for people who just want to make more money. I'm aware that any business needs money to run but I just think people should focus less on it. Patrick Stewart doesn't seem to be the kind of person who would get greedy like that but a lot of celebrities these days are just seen to be cashing in on anything they can. It just seems, to me, to be a surprising avenue of work to go down and I keep on wondering why he's gone that way. Greed is one reason. Another is that he's a hardcore GamErXoR!!!111

A horrible commercial... Not one scene from the game, not one hint of complexity. It comes across as a game for little kids whereas it's rather Shakesperean in design. Liberate a nation? Har.

Here's an interesting story. HMV have not yet despatched my long time preordered copy of FFXII. If this is common amongst everyone else then it would appear that HMV is actively ignoring loyal customers in a preorder queue in favour of people in London who turn up on the day.

If this were the case I would be extremely annoyed and it would mark the last time I ordered from HMV (student discount or not). Frankly I hate queue jumpers and company instituted queue jumping worse of all.

I only just got my dispatch e-mail from Amazon 5 minutes ago, so I doubt I'll see it before Monday, but that'll give me a little extra time to press on with Okami.
  • Xerx3s #26 5 years ago

This has been here in the shops for 2 days already btw. >:)
  • NegativeZero #27 5 years ago

A shame that he's not promoting a better game. After such a long wait for them to release it, I found FF12 to be extremely disappointing. Small issues and the change of feel from traditional RPG to MMO-without-the-other-people ended up really killing it for me. :(
  • Xerx3s #28 5 years ago

    where?

I spotted it in several cities in the Netherlands. But then again, embargo's usually don't hold over here.
  • hybridial #29 5 years ago

Baha, I had the game like 6 months ago. Importing ftw.

Patrick Stewart ftw also... well no actually, that was as poor a performance from him as it was in Oblivion. Sounded so wooden once has to wonder if he's growing branche these days. Still can't hate him though... just can't.
  • crazyhorse174 #30 5 years ago

Asda had a load of copies of this earlier.
