Ex-GRIN devs open new studio

Cry Engine 3 game in the works.

The creators of Bionic Commando Rearmed, Wanted and Terminator: Salvation have opened a new studio and started work on a game it reckons will blow gamers' socks off.

The ex-GRIN developers have named their new studio Whiteout, set up shop in Sweden, and turned their attention towards "digital markets".

They're building their game using Crysis developer Crytek's engine Cry Engine 3, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

"We've got some very exciting concepts under development," said co-founder Joel Fagerlund.

"We are currently working on a bigger project in Cry Engine 3, and thanks to the excellent technology and support from Crytek, we have been able to carefully handcraft a playable prototype that will knock your socks off."

"At GRIN, we saw the community's extraordinary response to Bionic Commando: Rearmed," added Fagerlund.

"Couple that with the fact that new releases such as Limbo and Joe Danger have been so well received, we know that the digital marketplace is vibrant and thriving."

I'm sure there was a EG interview with one of the guys from Crytek earlier this year saying that they were positively NOT going to licence out the CryEngine to other devs?

Loved terminator salvation (oddly one of the few games I've completed) and loved their bionic commando (bit hard though). Best of luck lads!

GRIN's best are still the two GRAW games they did for the PC. Both were pure epic enjoyment both online and off.

What was the name of the other studio that splintered off of GRIN? GRIN going kaputt could turn out to be a good thing.
    Might and Delight it was.

And now Whiteout. And Fatshark, kind of. And Bitsquid and Trinity QA Studio Wikipedia tells me. With the latter two focusing on other parts of game development than the actual development of them.

Here's a Bitsquid tech demo called Stone Giant.

And you should ban this huiyi spam bot. Also if you don't have one of those captcha things for sign-ups already, you should.

Terminator: Salvation is one of the worst games I've ever played.

Only recently topped by Sniper: Ghost Warrior which is 'cut your own bollocks off' awful.

Salvation was shit, Bionic Commando was shit, Wanted was shit.

I hope Grin can get back on track with their next game

hope they all die... they are responsible for some of the worst games of recent times. the level of crap they produce was only fit for xbla anyway.

As is customary when Grin is mentioned I will chip in and say that Bionic Commando on the 360 was great.

    Noone else agrees though

    @nuanimal

Im pretty sure they plan otherwise. The cryengine 3 is built to automaticly port itself to the consoles. So once something is done in the PC version, it automaticly applies itself on the consoles too. They want to license this engine and would like to see it become as big as the unreal engine, but let's see how it performs when we get crysis 2 :)

    @ mickey2010

Dont forget what Bioware did with the unreal engine, they crafted the awesome looking mass effect games with that engine :)
