Everton signs Football Manager database News

PC Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

17 November, 2008

Everton Football Club has inked a deal with Sports Interactive to use the bulging Football Manager database to scout players and staff.

Over 1000 scouts compile the enormous pool of data, which amounts to around 370,000 accurate descriptions from 20,000 teams in over 50 countries worldwide.

Now, real-life Everton football manager David Moyes will sift through the continually updated data in the hope of picking out the next big signing for The Toffees.

"I am personally delighted with today's announcement as I'm a Toffees fan," said Sports Interactive captain Miles Jacobson.

"Standing on the pitch with my signing-on shirt is as close to my boyhood dream of playing at Goodison Park as I will ever get.

"We've known for a while that teams use the game to research certain players, whether to buy or to check out the opposition, but this formal recognition by a premiership team is fantastic and we are sure it will prove a fruitful one for the Everton FC," he added.

The Yid's lead by Harry's inspired hand have also gone the videogame database route doing a deal for the legendary Premier Manager's database. Peter Moore is still trying to offload Fifa Manager's, but no interested peeps as yet.

That is fairly awesome.

Back when I used to play these games 10 years ago I'd often sign unknown players and a few years later they'd show up somewhere. Signed a player on a free and he is now in Barcelona's reserves! I thought the database was made by fans but I guess they know what they're talking about!

I assume this ground breaking deal will be worth approximately 30 quid a year for SI?
Why would you need to sign an official deal when you can just buy the game?

@estoo: reading the si games forums, it Miles said that what WE see in the database isn't actually all of the information they hold in their master database; it's a slightly watered down version with just stats and info used for the game.

I guess this is how they put in player heights and weights a few versions back.... they didn't need to trawl through every player again to find this out, they already knew that information, it was just about putting that into the retail game database and having the match engine use it.

Please let me know how good database configuration management environment such dbMaestro will treat that amount of data?

It is funny though because dbMaestro is not only DB manager, BUT also got the "TeamWork" so it can handle the team data and work ambivalently :-D
