Even DC blokes have fatalities - Boon

In new Mortal Kombat. Well, "brutalities".

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe jolly well will have fatalities, series co-creator Ed Boon has reiterated, and even the licensed good guys on the DC side will have equivalents.

"All of the MK characters and all of the DC villains will have fatalities. The DC heroes who don't kill that often will have brutalities that will function just like fatalities but don't actually kill the opponent," Boon told GameSpot this week.

Apparently Midway and Boon's teaser at the publisher's Gamers Day in April simply gave people the wrong impression. "I was surprised to see so many stories stating (with so much certainty) that the game wasn't going to have fatalities. As if we made an official announcement," he said.

"We were also surprised by how much speculation and assumptions people made about the game after seeing practically zero gameplay," he added. Well, you know Ed, it was either that or try and sound enthusiastic about The Wheelman.

Asked what we'll be able to see at E3 next month, Boon responded: "We will be showing four characters and two arenas." We'll be there so hopefully we'll get to see more of the finishing move system. The game is now in full production, apparently.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is due out on PS3 and 360 this autumn.

Scorpion ripping off Wonder Woman's head and uppercutting the rest of her body into a pool of acid - only for her headless skeleton to come floating back to the surface?

    I AM SO THERE.

I'm sure DC will be thrilled at the thought of Quan Chi ripping Superman's leg off and beating him to death with it.

in the trade i believe that is known as a cop out. i mean why the heck does superman even have super human strength if he isn't allowed to publicly tear men in two. i'll bet he does it all the time when people ai'nt looking.

Are we still living in the era of the Comics Code or something?

Batman can be brutally murdered but he can't do the same to his opponent? What does he do instead, put Sub-Zero in handcuffs?

Pretty damn silly if you ask me.

other sources say wedgies are already implemented.

    this whole idea is rubbish

i cna accept batman a fighting game, to an extent, as he isnt super powered, but the idea of superman in any sort of fist fight in MK is stupid

This whole project smacks of some business man who has never read a comic or played a computer game noticing that Marvel vs Capcom made some money.Yes Batman, Nightwing, Green Arrow could arguably work but as soon as you put in Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern or even the Flash either the balance becomes totally screwed or you have to bork their abilities so that they're essentially just regulars in super hero costumes.

Agreed. "I am Superman! And I will defeat you, despite the fact I'm going to have to obviously hold back a whole lot. I mean, I can move planets. PLANETS. But nah, that Scorpion, just some guy good at martial arts, is a real threat. I'm faster than a speeding bullet, invulnerable to almost everything, but that's nothing against wrist cables. Ooh, I'm scared."

It'd just be super fast punch - next battle - repeat to end.

No, they're MAGIC. Magic, you see. And Superman can't be doing with magic.

    Honest. That's the reason.

    True story.

    Ahem.
  • DFawkes #12 4 years ago

Actually, I'm fairly sure magic does affect Superman whenever it comes up in the comics, so that could be plausible. Bloody hell, I really need to get out more!
  • Chaote-Imagicka #13 4 years ago

Yes magic justifies the borking (in fiction in can justify anything), but it doesn't make it fun. As RexRunti pointed out we're nto going to be fighting superheroes so much as normal people cosplaying superheroes. Who, with exceptions such as Batman, should promptly get there heads caved in. Superman is super, when he has his powers, but to the best of my knowledge he's never taken so much as a basic self defence class for times when he can't rely on his ability to move faster than bullets, fly and be invulnerable.

    maybe they'll have cryptonite...
  • Ranger101 #15 4 years ago

It'll be some bollocks about Superman's powers being drained due to the Magicks after he got sucked into the outerworld/netherword/otherworld, and he can only fight at 10% of his power or some shit. Mark my words.

    Afterall, Raiden was a God.
  • dirtysteve #16 4 years ago

I think Ranger101 has twigged it!
  • Ryze #17 4 years ago

Yeah, if it's DC characters fighting in the MK tournament, then everyone has to be Mortal. Uh, oh - Superman is mortal, eh? Just very powerful.

It'll still suck if they put a weak Superman in there though. I'll wait and see if they triumph or fuck it all up.

Can't be worse than most Superhero games...

    /eyes Superman demo on XBL...
  • louyfitz #18 4 years ago

Well I'm generally harsh about games like this, but I love MK, so heres hoping they dont fuck it up.

Will interesting to see how they explain two completly different 'worlds' mixed together to make a huge battle.

It does make sense that all the MK charecters would team up either, or that batman and superman would team up. Surely the clash of different moral standpoints would cause some brain imploding conflict.
