EVE: Ambulation on show in November News

MMO PC News by Oli Welsh

23 June, 2008

EVE Online developer CCP has announced the first showing of its Ambulation update - which will allow EVE players to create avatars who can walk around and interact with each other for the first time. It will be demonstrated at EVE's 2008 Fanfest, held in CCP's home town of Reykjavik, Iceland.

EVE characters currently only exist as small 2D avatars - and of course, the vast spaceships they pilot. The long-awaited Ambulation will allow characters to come to polygonal life and explore space stations on foot.

For more information on what's on offer at Fanfest 08 - including the only slightly desperate-sounding "spouse ticket" plan to encourage a female presence at the event - head over to the official page.

I'm half contemplating to purchase EVE just for this feature. That or whenever they introduce Atmospheric Flight.

EVE - and the plans CCP has for it - is really exciting, it's just so hard to get into; especially now with all large and well-established Corporations. Perhaps it wouldn't feel as such, had it been a bit more like Freelancer - although I guess it's fine as is as long as they find better ways to introduce new players and keep the game-world from becoming completely dominated by its veterans.
