Europe gets ModNation Racers first

Date finally set in tarmac.

Cute and customisable driving game ModNation Racers will be released in the UK on 21st May.

Sony confirmed that date to VG247, ensuring Europe plays before the US. The game launches there on 25th May.

ModNation is another of Sony's 'Play, Create, Share' experiments. The idea, like LittleBigPlanet, is to offer both game and toolset in one.

Catch up with Eurogamer's hand-on impressions of ModNation Racers from March to find out more.

So this is the game where you can create your own tracks etc and download others?

Can't wait til someone recreates the Super Mario Kart ones :)

Isn't that the same day as Split/Second and a week before Blur.

Seems like pretty bad timing to me.

Wow, that's a lot sooner than expected.

This game has had very little hype. Maybe that's a good thing?

Nice. Also liked the 'new' Sony-add with Kevin Butler regarding ModNationSomethingSomething. :)

Beta was great but VERY unfinished and buggy (excuse the pun :p)

If everything is alot smoother and bug free then im tempted.....but not paying full price
Id say £20-30 is fair before i buy

Appologies I am posting from the iPhone app with VoiceOver. I meant to say that it'll be interesting to see what people do with the creation tools

I'm keen to rate the success of this since the BETA.

Same day as Alan Wake AND Red Dead Redemption, what do I do?

I didn't think much of the beta. I'll assume the final release fixed the bugs and is more polished but I don't see how they fixed the most glaring problem - the modding just seemed so sterile and matter of fact. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it had the same demented / joyful feel as LBP.

Looking forward to this one but I doubt it'll be a first day buy for me, not with it being so close to Split Second.

Also it takes a while for people to get to grips with the creator and start making the truly epic stuff, so I'll probably give it a few weeks before I buy.

I'm sure my kids will enjoy this, it was great watching them build crazy stuff on LBP... but yeah at the same time as RDR... too much money required ;) ... i guess they think that the people that will buy this game wont be the same crowd buying RDR, but in my (and probably many others) we will buy RDR for ourselves and MN for the kids... expensive.

I'm strangely drawn to this title. It will be an instant purchase for me as it appears to have the most simple yet versatile track creator ever. I really get a kick out of track creators. It's why I own Racedriver GRID on DS.

Think I'll get red dead first and this will hopefully be cheaper a few weeks later

I personally hated LittleBigPlanet (and loved Modnation Racers) but didn't it sell millions pretty quickly?

There are several tracks for you to use - you don't HAVE to download or make more. It sounds like you are just moaning for the sake of it.

Been playing the final code of this at work (my office shares space with sony), and it's quite good fun - it's basically Mario Kart with more options. The final code is waaaaaay improved over the beta. Still, for some reason I keep thinking this would have been better as a download...

    @mickey2010
And when we've finished comparing the sales figures we can compare the quality of Sonys varied line up of top quality, top rated exclusives and Microsofts endless flood of tedious rehashed shooters.

Thank you... you just made my day... hell no, the weekend :D

Agreed. MNR contains a full single player campaign with a story and many pre-made tracks. The user is not forced to make and/or download any tracks.

Alan Wake is the 14th May.

Maybe in a years time I'll get around to buying this one too!
