Eurogamer Expo 2010 Top 10
Including your game of the show.
Every year at the Eurogamer Expo we invite you to tell us what you thought of the games you played, and without fail every year (so far anyway) you exhibit amazing taste in huge numbers. This year's Expo line-up was our strongest and most diverse yet, so we were excited to see what would follow in the footsteps of last year's winner, God of War III, or 2008's Mirror's Edge...
10. Fallout: New Vegas
- Bethesda Softworks / Obsidian Entertainment
- PC, PS3, Xbox 360 hands-on preview
- Out: 22/10/2010
Vegas, baby! One of several games on the floor that we had to throw our own staff off every day when the show opened, New Vegas takes a look at the other side of America to Fallout 3 and looks every bit the real deal - as you'd expect from a Fallout game developed by Obsidian Entertainment, some of whom worked on the really old ones.
9. Gran Turismo 5
- Sony / Polyphony Digital
- PS3 hands-on preview
- Out: 2010
Now this is happening. No no, seriously! It may have been in development since before Expos were invented, but Gran Turismo 5 had no trouble impressing many of the people who came to ours - probably aided somewhat by the lovely space-age pods and steering wheel setups we had on hand to demonstrate it. Many of you also got to try the game in 3D - probably at least as many as own 3D TVs in the entire world, in fact.
Update: Man, we knew you were tempting fate!
8. Bulletstorm
- Electronic Arts / People Can Fly
- PC, PS3, Xbox 360 preview
- Out: 22/02/2011
"If the idea of MadWorld with colossal guns, unfettered misogyny and constant sexual innuendo makes you want to roar like an excitable grizzly bear, there's plenty to look forward to here," Kristan Reed wrote about Bulletstorm just before E3 this year. We knew he was right about you. It's already been pimped to within an inch of its dignity by Cliff Bleszinski of People Can Fly cohorts Epic Games of course, and when Mr Bigger, Better And More Badass thinks an action game is worth considering, you should probably take notice - as you have.
7. Fable III
- Microsoft / Lionhead Studios
- Xbox 360 hands-on preview
- Out: 29/10/2010
We stuck our necks out two years ago and handed Fable II top marks, and everything we see and hear about Fable III heightens our impatience for the sequel. Peter Molyneux's delightful keynote address at this year's Expo told us how the series came about and evolved over time, and saw the announcement of the cunning Kingmaker mobile phone application, but we won't be sated until we're contemplating that huge decision we're promised at the start, and the rest.
6. LittleBigPlanet 2
- Sony / Media Molecule
- PS3 hands-on
- Out: January 2011
Yours truly had many solemn and important duties at this year's Eurogamer Expo (those jagerbombs weren't going to drink themselves), but perhaps none more so than escorting a friend's six-year-old daughter around the show floor. All she wanted to do was play LittleBigPlanet 2, so we dressed up some sackgirls and then helped one another through each of the playable levels. Then we got up to let someone else have a go and wandered off to find another game to play. "Do you want to try Fable III?" "No." "Do you want to try Dance Central?" "No." "What do you want to play?" "..." "You want to play LittleBigPlanet 2 again, don't you?" Vigorous nodding.
5. Dead Space 2
- Electronic Arts
- PC, PS3, Xbox 360 preview
- Out: 28/01/2011
For a game that supposedly bombed at retailers, Dead Space hasn't done badly building up a following in the last two years, and it's no surprise to see it on your most-wanted list for the months ahead. The sequel removes Isaac Clarke to a space station called the Sprawl, which poses many of the same threats as the first game's stricken Ishimuura, but with a huge population to worry about too.
4. Gears of War 3
- Microsoft / Epic Games
- Xbox 360 hands-on preview
- Out: autumn 2011
We were probably the only people on the planet delighted to hear that Gears of War 3 had been delayed. Hardly surprising, given we heard about its slip to autumn 2011 just after we opened the show doors on the first day of the Expo, knowing we now had it playable around a year ahead of release. We were hardly alone in enjoying the Beast mode demo on the show floor, however, which was General RAAMed throughout the event as you discovered how Horde might work with the shoe on the other foot.
3. Killzone 3
- Sony / Guerrilla Games
- PS3 hands-on preview
- Out: February 2011
The invasion's over, so now it's time for the peace, right? Well, probably not, given that the game's called KILLZONE. The third instalment picks up where the second left off, with protagonist Sev and his colleagues caught in the battle between rival factions on Helghan hoping to fill the vacuum left by Visari. After the darkness comes the light, too, with developer Guerrilla promising a bit more humour as well as brighter locations - best illustrated by the battles above and upon huge ice floes. Also: jetpacks. Get in.
2. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
- Ubisoft / Ubisoft Montreal
- PC, PS3, Xbox 360 multiplayer hands-on
- Out: 19/11/2010
When Ubisoft said it was introducing multiplayer to Assassin's Creed in a new episode featuring ACII hero Ezio, we didn't jump for joy. In fact, we muttered something unrepeatable and wondered how long we'd have to wait before we found out about Desmond's future, because after the way ACII concluded, the last thing on our mind was another round with Ezio, let alone 16 Ezios controlled by squeaky teenage adversaries. Brotherhood looks like it could change our minds though. Never mind Ezio - the real thrill in ACII was rinsing the game's fabulous cities, each more packed than the last with hidden collectibles and parcels of intrigue. Brotherhood brings us to Rome. The multiplayer, meanwhile, was one of your stars of the Expo - a game of cat and mouse where the mouse doesn't know it's the mouse and the cat's playing it cool.
1. Brink
- Bethesda Softworks / Splash Damage
- PC, PS3, Xbox 360 hands-on preview
- Out: spring 2011
Last year Splash Damage founder Paul Wedgwood headlined our developer sessions with a superb presentation of Brink's customisation systems and unique approach to the multiplayer first-person shooter. This year Splash Damage brought the game for you to play ahead of its spring 2011 launch, and it's fair to say it kept up the momentum! Whether you like single-player FPS campaigns or team-based multiplayer, and whether you like accessible controls that let you vault over random terrain like a pro or you prefer to handle the fine details of movement yourself, Brink has you covered, while veteran designers from the likes of Killzone 2, Fable II, Counter-Strike and more are responsible for the levels, art and storyline. What's not to like? Judging by Brink's success at the Expo, not much.

Dragon age 2 was my favourite game there by a mile, especially considering there is so little info about it at the moment getting to play it was just awesome.

BUT WHAT'S THIS NONSENSE?!
Where's the mention of Marvel vs Capcom 3? By the looks of things, it didn't even rate! That can't be right, surely?

I guess all the fantards spent themselves after hearing about the GT5 delay.

Intrigued by Brink though, I never bothered trying it because of the queues.

I'm not saying they're crap or anything like that but theres nothing there that I can't wait to play. I'm probably just becoming jaded with games at the minute.

Other missing games (i.e. The Witcher 2) - we only counted the games on the main show floor (i.e. that were playable).
SuperBas: Cool isn't it! We had 200 t-shirts printed with that logo and sold them all on the first day!! We've subsequently got some more, not sure how/when we're gonna sell/give them away tho.

I wish I'd pulled a sickie and gone to the Expo, cos I've had my beady eye on Brink for a while and hadn't clocked it was showing. Looks mint.

Thank you. I've read a few posts saying Crysis 2 was ropey at the expo I'm glad the PC version isn't included in that! Is it really great? Just got round to finishing Warhead and I'm gonna miss that jungle TBH.

GoldenEye was also great fun, but that was also pretty well hidden in the middle of the Nintendo booth. Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was intentionally well hidden, with a single booth hidden behind curtains. Still got big queues though.
Dragon Age 2 was utterly awful, at least the 360 version was. The most generic hack-and-slash game I've ever seen, worse than Hunted. I'm sure the PC version will be deeper in terms of combat, but I'm not really enamoured with the visuals either. Their "exciting new look" seems much more boring, and the previously terrifying ogres look much less fearsome.

Wish I'd spotted Goldeneye - I walked all over the Nintendo stall and just didn't see it. Fable 3 was the biggest surprise for me, after being disappointed with Fable 2 I wasn't expecting much but the demos were a lot of fun.
