Euro SOCOM PS3 pushed to "early 2009"

Definitely not out here tomorrow.

Sony has told us that SOCOM: Confrontation will not be out this Friday in Europe, as some retailers are still suggesting.

Instead, a spokesperson told us the online tactical PS3 shooter will arrive in "early 2009". No reason was given for the delay.

SOCOM: Confrontation has been out in America - where little mice go to make their fortunes - for a while.

So you can always buy from the US PlayStation Store by faking your address and purchasing pre-paid PSN cards from eBay. Or so we've heard.

However, the UK retail version will come bundled with a Bluetooth headset, which is quite important for this sort of squad-based stuff, apparently.

Plus, there are also suggestions that the US version may be clogged with a few bugs; something that might be fixed in the transition to Europe.

Head over to our SOCOM: Confrontation gamepage to find out more.

I'm guessing the delay is down to a shortage of the offical bluetooth headsets.
They were also due out here tomorrow, yet neither play.com nor game have had them in yet.

As Sony will require all games released after the 1st if January to support trophies will that include games delayed in europe that didn't have trophies in the US ? (such as Silent Hill Homecoming and now SOCOM)

Are they also going to make it GOOD at the same time?

No. Mandatory Trophies are for new games submitted after 01/01/09. SOCOM is getting Trophies though.

I'm not really that into SOCOM (much more looking forward to KZ2 for my FPS fix on PS3 - roll on December!) but seriously, what's up with the regional delays? I'm primarily a 360 gamer and haven't yet bought my PS3 but are there many of these delays?

Because I thought there was a thing a while back where some Sony guy said Europe was their most important territory? Yeah, sure seems like it when you release stuff here last, especially as the vast majority of 360 games are released within a fortnight of other territories. And way to cut yourself out of the Christmas fun by releasing in 2009!

Nintendo is pretty guilty of it too, making us wait months and months after Japanese releases, stretching out already interminable periods of gaming drought.

Its not really an FPS, and it just didn't feel that interesting to play (Beta boy here), certainly when compared to the competition. Its not like there is a lack of war based shooty things.

What about the headset? Will it be coming out tomorrow?

Some oen on the forum got a mail for GAME saying that there is a "market wide stock delivery issue" on the headsets.

I am hoping they will turn up some time before xmas.

i pre ordered my headset from gameplay and they just sent me an email saying they didnt get any stock, so i think thats the real reason the game has been delayed, just short on the hardware.

But lets face it, it was never a good idea to bring it out the same day as resistance 2.

After sampling the beta I'd recommend they don't bother at all over here ;)

Sorry to upset the SDF but I didn't get the love of this series last gen and still don't this gen. Thought it was a terrible and uninteresting game after trying the beta.

So... they delay it, because it was buggy like hell on release (and afaik still is) and STILL people bitch about it... jeez...
  • aristotel #12 3 years ago

It was already 1.5 months later than USA release! The new delay is not a week or two, but ANOTHER 1.5 months! Game.co.uk where I had pre-ordered it, did not notify me and worse of all Sony Europe waited until the LAST DAY to let people know! I have cancelled my order from Game.co.uk. I noticed that they have the headset alone and still with this week's date for release (unlikey the game bundle). I ordered it, but from Play.com as they at least seem to have the decency to email those with pre-orders and let them know what the situation is.

Maybe they just didn't want to post a 1st party FPS up against another 1st party FPS this close to xmas.

Hey another sony delaystation product what a suprise!
  • NotSoSlim #16 3 years ago

The game is still riddled with bugs so Sony do what they should of done in the first place and delayed it. Of course the normal whingers moan when if the had released the buggy game the same saddos would of moaned as well.

    Seriously sad!!

It was a strategic delay. SOCOM would fail miserably against Resistance 2 (which is fucking good). Instead SOCOM will now fail miserably on it's own and I, along with many others will rejoice when Killzone 2 comes out.

MGO is a much better TPS than SOCOM.
  • mainaman #18 3 years ago

Socom is dissapointing ''tactical'' shooter as is MGO.I haven't played KZ2 yet,but the first one did have potential, especially the awesome weapons.
  • spookyzombie #19 3 years ago

Something delayed you say? What a shocker.

Amazon.com (rather than .co.uk) list the headset as in stock. Given they're USB charged there's no issues with regional power differences. However current exchange rate puts the price about £33 quid, which is sadly about twice what the UK price is listed as. Add on postage and it'll get rather expensive. So you're rather stuffed either way.

EDIT: Scratch that, Amazon US won't ship them to the UK. Play-Asia it is then...

EDIT: Blimey, Play-Asia won't ship them to the EU either. Looks like we're buggered.

My Play.com order has just switched to Packing on the headset!

  • Apostle #23 3 years ago

Oh well, not like the game was much good anyway. Sorry to be harsh, but it's true. Seriously wonder why I have my PS3 anymore, could do with a few quid right now.

Ever since Sony took Lik-Sang to court numerous times to try and stop them shipping Sony products to Europe (and put them out of business in the process), other online retailers are wary of the wrath of the Sony legal team.

    Sorry.

    Wow, only a year late(ish)?!
I don't mind delays on game releases due to quality control, but it's just lazy and stupid of Sony not to keep us up to date with these problems. Maybe they can pay me for the time I have taken off work for all the failed game realease dates.
I'll just have to put up with COD5's rubbish online gaming glitches till some time next year and the apparently amazing R2, nice.
