Euro Rock Band songs to be like DLC

Available for your own set lists.

Harmonix has explained that the Euro-exclusive songs in Rock Band will not be a part of the main set list, easing any worries of suddenly trying to master a foreign track.

Instead, the songs will work like downloadable tracks and so can be added to make-your-own or mystery lists.

"Okay, update: they will be treated as DLC, so they won't have a specific tour or venue or anything, but they will be available to select for make-your-own and mystery set lists," said a Harmonix employee on the Rock Band forums.

Those of you outside Europe will also be able to buy theses songs as downloadable content, apparently, so 160 Points (GBP 1.36 / EUR 1.92) each.

Rock Band will be a time exclusive for Xbox 360 when it is released on 23rd May. PS3, PS2 and Wii versions will follow later this summer.

It will also be rather more expensive than its US counterpart, which many of you are up in arms about.

Those Euro-exclusive tracks can be found below:

English

  • "Beetlebum" by Blur
  • "Rock 'n' Roll Star" by Oasis
  • "Monsoon" by Tokio Hotel
  • "Hysteria" by Muse

German

  • "Hier Kommt Alex" by Die Toten Hosen
  • "Perfekte Welle" by Juli
  • "Countdown to Insanity" by H-Block X

French

  • "Manu Chao" by Les Wampas
  • "New Wave" by Playmo

Is it true that RB DLC is double the price for Europe? Is it really 80MSP for US content?
  • peteb #5 4 years ago

looks like some songs are 80ms points for a limited time then jump up to the standard 160 points. Dunno if Europe will get the same type of deal. Won't bother most of us anyway, since we can't afford to buy it.

I'm probably just thinking the worst now after the announced price that even beats 'Steel Battalion', but don't think that these were originally planned to be on the disk? It just seems odd, if you were going to release some DLC tracks on release that people just couldn't say no to. I can't imagine why they would really pick them 4 songs....... (Apart from Oasis)

    Bettlebum??? give me a break!

Rock Band is dead to me. I was going to get one for the workplace, to hook it up to the company Wii on fridays, to enjoy with drinks and beers before going out, as we do once in a while. But that just is not going to happen with this pricing travesty.

Uproar is the wrong word for this. People seem simply resigned and seem to have given up on the game. And now this DLC crap.

I guess the reason for this is the unprecedented success of Rock Band in the US. They probably thought they'd pushed the envelope on pricing already, and then were unable to meet demand. So this time around, for the European market, they prbaby think it's going to sell no matter what they charge for it.

Well, EA, your potental market has hereby shrunk by at one customer. Bet you'll still make a fortune off this, tho.

To be fair, I don't think EA are saying these tracks will actually be DLC. I think they're on the EU disc, but are like instant DLC-type tracks that you have from the start. So they are added into the World Tour mode and stuff but not into the individual career.

That's how RB works as I understand it with regards to DLC.

It's all moot anyway as no one I know will be buying this game unless their last name is secretly McDuck.

    Two customers my friend, two...

@Anthony_UK: You misunderstood the article. The songs *will* be on the disc. They are just not part of the main songlist but are treated the same way as DLC (and I think also the regular bonus) songs are treated, i.e. you can beat the solo tours without these songs and in Band World Tour they only come up in self-made setlists and mystery (=random) setlists.

Rock band with German music and no Rammstein... frikkin missed opportunity if you ask me.
  • Anthony_UK #12 4 years ago

Apologies, reading again I can see I have...... I think I must of just of seen the words 'DLC' 'EURO' and 'TRACKS' and just made up the rest up..

    /feels stupid

'which many of you are up in arms about.'

I assume the lack of criticism by eurogamer around the pricing of Rock Band in Europe should be seen as eurogamer support or disinterest in the explotation of it's userbase?

I can't imagine a website dedicated to any other commerical product which would have shown so little support for an attempt to rob it's users. If a car that cost £20,000 in the US was released in the UK for £50,000 I couldn't imagine the same complete editorial silence and disinterest.

Have we really reached the stage where websites like Eurogamer are so in the pocket of major games distributors that they couldn't care less about the general public? Or is it the fact that most people working here will already have promotional copies of the game and instruments for free that you don't seem to give a f?

The sad part of this is.. Eurogamer are NOT up in arms about the pricing. Why not? You're not only supposed to REPORT the news, you're supposed to deliver an opinion!

Have EA bought Eurogamer's silence? Wouldn't surprise me, after the Gamespot debacle.
  • brazzauk #15 4 years ago

Glad I imported mine for PS3 last year. Have all the DLC and its only cost me £90 thanks to the ever so strong pound, was lucky not to get stung on the import duty although I didn't scape it for my second guitar.

This is a great game but as usual we get screwed in Europe on release and price. So glad they made the PS3 region free.
  • skillian #16 4 years ago

You're not only supposed to REPORT the news, you're supposed to deliver an opinion!

This is what I think too, but every time I mention it half the commenters go crazy talking about objectiveness and impartiality.

I think EG's stance is only offer opinion in reviews and articles (or the tag-line of a news story).
  • Lebowski #17 4 years ago

Oasis and Blur would have to come round my house and play a set for me to pay £180 for this game. Greedy sods.
  • Kyle #18 4 years ago

"Those of you outside Europe will also be able to buy theses songs as downloadable content."

So they aren't really "Euro-exclusive" at all then, are they.
  • Thiral #19 4 years ago

I read somewhere else that importing from the US could get expensive as well because the parts for the game had low quality, if something would get broken you would either have to buy a new one or send it to the US to get it fixed... STILL, I would say it's clearly worth it to import the game including a PS3, how can you ever switch parts so often that you spend 100£ on it... The price for EU is just sorrow. And I had to lol a bit when he said the components had low quality, that's great when it costs a f******* Wii

One decent song and three shit tracks for just £80 more? BARGAIN!
