Euro Rock Band songs to be like DLC
Available for your own set lists.
Harmonix has explained that the Euro-exclusive songs in Rock Band will not be a part of the main set list, easing any worries of suddenly trying to master a foreign track.
Instead, the songs will work like downloadable tracks and so can be added to make-your-own or mystery lists.
"Okay, update: they will be treated as DLC, so they won't have a specific tour or venue or anything, but they will be available to select for make-your-own and mystery set lists," said a Harmonix employee on the Rock Band forums.
Those of you outside Europe will also be able to buy theses songs as downloadable content, apparently, so 160 Points (GBP 1.36 / EUR 1.92) each.
Rock Band will be a time exclusive for Xbox 360 when it is released on 23rd May. PS3, PS2 and Wii versions will follow later this summer.
It will also be rather more expensive than its US counterpart, which many of you are up in arms about.
Those Euro-exclusive tracks can be found below:
English
- "Beetlebum" by Blur
- "Rock 'n' Roll Star" by Oasis
- "Monsoon" by Tokio Hotel
- "Hysteria" by Muse
German
- "Hier Kommt Alex" by Die Toten Hosen
- "Perfekte Welle" by Juli
- "Countdown to Insanity" by H-Block X
French
- "Manu Chao" by Les Wampas
- "New Wave" by Playmo

Uproar is the wrong word for this. People seem simply resigned and seem to have given up on the game. And now this DLC crap.
I guess the reason for this is the unprecedented success of Rock Band in the US. They probably thought they'd pushed the envelope on pricing already, and then were unable to meet demand. So this time around, for the European market, they prbaby think it's going to sell no matter what they charge for it.
Well, EA, your potental market has hereby shrunk by at one customer. Bet you'll still make a fortune off this, tho.

That's how RB works as I understand it with regards to DLC.
It's all moot anyway as no one I know will be buying this game unless their last name is secretly McDuck.

I assume the lack of criticism by eurogamer around the pricing of Rock Band in Europe should be seen as eurogamer support or disinterest in the explotation of it's userbase?
I can't imagine a website dedicated to any other commerical product which would have shown so little support for an attempt to rob it's users. If a car that cost £20,000 in the US was released in the UK for £50,000 I couldn't imagine the same complete editorial silence and disinterest.
Have we really reached the stage where websites like Eurogamer are so in the pocket of major games distributors that they couldn't care less about the general public? Or is it the fact that most people working here will already have promotional copies of the game and instruments for free that you don't seem to give a f?

Have EA bought Eurogamer's silence? Wouldn't surprise me, after the Gamespot debacle.

This is a great game but as usual we get screwed in Europe on release and price. So glad they made the PS3 region free.

This is what I think too, but every time I mention it half the commenters go crazy talking about objectiveness and impartiality.
I think EG's stance is only offer opinion in reviews and articles (or the tag-line of a news story).

So they aren't really "Euro-exclusive" at all then, are they.
