Euro ModNation Racers beta dated

Gets underway this month.

Sony's announced a 22nd January starting date for the European ModNation Racers beta.

There are a 100,000 places available for testers, and those will be given to people who log on to the PlayStation Store this Thursday and download the beta client.

Be quick, as after 100,000 downloads, the ModNations Racers beta client will disappear from the PS Store.

Gain entry and four pre-made courses await, two of which are exclusive to Europe. You can also get busy with the game's creation tools and dream up characters, karts and alpine-themed courses.

The European ModNations Racers beta will end on Valentine's Day: 14th February.

The full game - a kind of LittleBigPlanet-meets-racing affair - will be released later this year.

Better get on there early then, hopefully this will just be a fun game, doesn't need to be too technical or do anything to push the boundaries, just a fun game that you can have a laugh with whilst shooting rockets at your opponents.

Just can see the PSN servers crashing big time for this, lame idea. Just go back to the old way of doing it, pre-orders or filling out an online form

Been playing the US beta. Creation tools are much more fun and engaging than the LBP ones. Racing is pretty much standard Mario Kart fare. Hope to get the EU beta too then for less lag and connection issues

So presumably people who work during the day won't get a chance. :(

Still i'm sure we'll have a MAG situation where the beta will go public sooner or later.

This is a day one purchase for me whether I can get into beta or not. It looks like good clean fun and is probably the most innovative game of this year on any platform.

I really enjoyed LBP but found it difficult to make levels that I was happy with, especially after playing some of the masterpieces that other people had made. Building a track for racing should be a lot more accessible than trying to build a level in a platformer though so I expect to see a lot really cool tracks appear quite quickly after release.

In the US beta but think ill pass on the EU one. While the customisable elements are really good the driving controls are very loose and not very good, the camera is way too close to your kart and you cannot change it, and the weapons you pick up are not very good at all.

Such a shame, hope it changes before release as I love the track editor!

Impressions I've read of the US beta so far suggest that the devs have made exactly the same mistake that Media Molecule did, in not sorting out the fundamentals of their gameplay before they even thought about the creation stuff.

LBP should have been the best game ever, but unfortunately the platforming was merely average with floaty controls, and that really hurt the overall experience imo. It's a massive shame, because the rest of it was so utterly joyous.

Lessons for ModNation Racers there. I hope that the Euro beta shows an improvement, and that the final game is as good as Mario Kart in terms of gameplay - the creation aspects will be pointless if you don't actually want to play the game behind it all.

Argh, my TV comes back from repairs tomorrow and my PS3 has decided it won't output to my monitor today, even in safe mode. :(

    No beta for me.

@ratneruk: couldn't possibly be because the store hasn't been updated yet, no?
