After the WOW horse, the 'Quest cat.

Sony Online Entertainment has taken one look at the mountain of cash raked in by Blizzard's $25 World of Warcraft mount and decided it would like a slice of the action.

According to Shacknews, the MMO publisher has added three colours of premium Prowler mount to EverQuest II: Ethereal, Ulteran and Sinister (otherwise known as purple, blue and green). They cost 2500 Station Cash points each, which translates as $25, €25 or Ł20.

Unlike WOW's Celestial Steed, the mounts confer gameplay benefits via stat boosts.

They'll be available for "at least one month", says SOE.

Plenty of MMOs are doing this now. Conan for example. The beginning of the end for the genre I wonder? Will people still be interested when hard cash can give you an advantage?

Its not something i would buy.. but you have to say at $25 it seems like a rip off... but if people buy it then there is a market for it... just find it silly spending so much on something that costs very little to make/add value. Looks like this is the future of MMOs then if people keep spending the money.

The original EQ was massive, and i think EQ2 was big when it was released, but it certainly is more of a usa thing i think.
