EQ2 gets Monument and Might update News

MMO PC News by Oli Welsh

17 June, 2009

Sony Online Entertainment's MMO EverQuest II has been updated with the Monument and Might patch, including a new storyline, new questing, easier spell upgrades and player-written books.

In content terms, the update provides a batch of over 80 new quests for players to enjoy in the Kunark zone, centred on the appearance of Kurn's Tower. The headline new game feature is the appearance of Research Assistants who will upgrade your spells over time, one at a time, so you don't have to rely on expensive purchases or rare drops.

Monument and Might also introduces player-written books. You can use a text editor to create and distribute books that work exactly like those already found in the game and can be traded and sold as normal, except they can say whatever you like.

We really can't imagine that this will end well, but maybe we've been spending too much time around the World of Warcraft community.

Intriguing. Especially the second one. My publishing firm would like to pick up the distribution rights in North America, Europe and Asia and we're like to get in touch with Hollywood about the film tie in.

This will be interesting news for all three players in the game. Maybe they can write one book each and distribute among each other until the servers are shut down forever.

I got this at the weekend on the Steam deal because i've been touring the MMOs for the past two or three months looking for a new place to hang my hat after 1 and a bit years of WoW that ended with me burning out.

I ended up re-subbing to WoW after a couple of hours of EQ2. It's not that it's a bad game, it's just that it's dead. There was less than 100 people on the entire server on a Saturday evening which is generally a time that is chock-a-block on WoW servers. No other MMO comes close to WoW, i tried most of the big ones (except EVE, not my kind of thing) and AoC was about the closest at the moment.

City of Heroes is worth a burn Spud, although it's very narrow minded- "go here, do this quest, level up" etc. Personally I always felt when I played WoW (from classic through around Jan) that there was something I could do, especially once the achievements came in. This is something I haven't found with another MMO yet, WAR was the closest I ever came to getting pulled away from WoW.

Played CoH/CoV. It's utter gash. I don't get why it's so well regarded.
