Epic wants Gears of War feedback

Who's your favourite Delta squaddie?

Epic Games is asking for feedback from fans of its hit Xbox 360 shooter Gears of War. A new survey about the game has popped up on the official website.

According to reports, it was originally titled 'Gears of War 2 survey' - but this now appears to have been changed to plain old 'survey'.

Which makes sense when you consider all the questions are about the original game. Epic wants to know who your favourite Delta Squad member is, which is your preferred multiplayer mode and what was the toughest battle, amongst other things.

"Voting rocks," the intro reads. "Now it's time for Gearheads all across this great land of ours (you know, the Internet) to raise their Lancers high and let their voices be heard."

So what are you waiting for? Your brain to recall your password, possibly, as you must be signed in to Windows Live ID complete the survey.

Gears of War 2 is out this November. For absolutely no new information about the game but some stuff about Epic's other bobbins, read our interview with bossman Mark Rein.

Favourite Delta Squad Member: No-one, they're the most unlikeable bunch of musclebound stereotypes ever; what's there to like? LOL

Preferred Multiplayer Mode: Co-op (on and offline) only, didn't like the other modes at all, I thought they were too dull

Toughest Battle: General Raam, also the most anti-climatic part of the game IMO

It's still called GoW2 survery in the title bar.

And surely everyone's just going to vote for Cole Train? What the hell were the other ones even called?
  • MBar #3 4 years ago

    favourite Delta Squad member

i.e. which one do we kill off then?
  • skillian #4 4 years ago

LOL, you have to sign in with your Windows Live ID to even take the survey. Why, do they really need to know exactly who I am?

Sod that, I'll just leave my feedback here: the PC game sucks - get rid of the Windows Live stuff, and stop it crashing every ten minutes (literally, no exaggeration). Everything else is secondary. Maybe then I could play it long enough to give some feedback about the actual gameplay.

"...they're the most unlikeable bunch of musclebound stereotypes ever"

Muscle? That armour is paper thin, you know. And they do have a certain nationality :p
  • Machiavel #6 4 years ago

I was kind of on the side of the Locusts. Bloody meatheads, coming to their planet, laying down dunderhead rap on somebody else's planet.

There's that one called the Arbiter, and that woman thing called Cortana or something like that.

Can't sign in anyway as Live is screwed (Windows Live that is).
  • KungFuSpoon #9 4 years ago

Was it me or were those questions kinda pointless and lame, no "Do you want to see 4 player co-op?" or anything that will really affect how it plays, oh and vote for Carmine for best voice clips for........well everything, especially chainsawing. AhhhAHAHahahAHA!!
  • BadDevotions #10 4 years ago

crap survey. didn't ask anything that they could possibly find useful.
  • DDevil #11 4 years ago

I will vote for Carmine as my favourite squad member :-)
  • PlugMonkey #12 4 years ago

Now then, they were divided into two clear and distinct groups in my mind. Those being "The One Who Is Terry Tate, Office Linebacker" and "The Ones Who Aren't Terry Tate, Office Linebacker".

Leading me to have to choose The One Who Is Terry Tate, Office Linebacker.

Dom is a nice chap, Cole Train was pretty funny. Toughest battle? None of them! Maybe I shoulda turned the difficulty up, but General Raam was much easier than he looked.
  • nickthegun #14 4 years ago

The chinese guy who got killed.

    And the stupid chief.

My least favourite part was having to work out that the exploding boomer in the fenix mansion couldnt be killed.

I stopped answering the questions when I realised they just wanted to know what was "cool" in the first game.

what kind of survey doesnt give you the "what didnt you like" question?

    eat my balls epic.
  • asphaltcowboy #16 4 years ago

    Stupid survey.

My main bit of feedback: Please do not include (ranked) multiplayer achievements - Call of Duty 4 got achievements spot-on!
  • Peew971 #17 4 years ago

Please keep Warzone & Execution respawn-free.
  • jlaakso #18 4 years ago

Rare is the game which has characters and plot so stupid and aggravating that it actually takes away from the game. Gears did that for me, I just hated the bloody nonsense from the get-go, no matter how good the game was. "Favorite character", indeed.
  • Skooch #19 4 years ago

Crappy survey, the feedback I would like to give I couldn't and instead had to answer a bunch of lame questions. I really liked Gears but for 2 they need to change a number of things, IMO:
    - No online MP weapons achievements please, they ruined MP for a long time.
    - 4 player co-op would be nice
    - Online MP achievements that actually encourage gameplay would be good.
    - Introduction of new weapons (flamethrower would be cool, new type of 'nade perhaps?)
    - Tightening up of MP levels, there were too many exploits and many people could get outside of the environment
    - Ability to play ranked as a Clan - very important
    - If not a Clan match then force the teams; too many whiners out there who moan they want to play as a Gear rather than a locust.

KungFuSpoon: Asking if people want coop is stupid, they already know that everybody is going to say yes.

Considering that the game is already well underway for a good two years and the recent comments that the project is much further into development than gow1 at this stage, I doubt that this is anything more than a PR stunt for attention.
  • MuppetThumper #21 4 years ago

signed in to take the survey but quit immediately afterwards. there was no option to give comments, id have loved to tell them how fuckin shite the whole experience is, and that they can jerk off to their bunch of american bad boy marines without me to provide reason for their cheer in the sequel.
  • optimusprym8 #22 4 years ago

yes to 4-player co-op, no to American muscle-bound macho bullshit. I quite liked Markus Fenix TBH as he just wanted the others to shut the fuck up most of the time, which I tended to agree with.

    "How awesome was our game?
    [ ] Awesome!
    [ ] Extra-awesome!!
    [ ] Super-awesome!!!
[ ] So awesome words cannot express it!!!!"

"And the survey says that 100% of respondents said that our game was awesome! Well done everybody".

    What an utterly pointless exercise...
  • suicida #24 4 years ago

I hope they fix the lobby system for the multiplayer in Gears2. Not being able to change the gametype/map without setting up a new room is utterly rubbish.
  • seasidebaz #25 4 years ago

favourite character: the one who wasn't stupid.

oh wait, that just leaves the damn bird things. they weren't stupid, just ruthless killing machines.
  • BobsUncle #26 4 years ago

I don't see why people are leaving their comments here. Everyone knows Americans don't know anything outside of America exists.

I was on a flight sat next to one, and he pointed at Canada on the on the TV screen map and asked if it was England. No joke.
  • Dark_Stranger #27 4 years ago

i just purchased GOW2 off that site- sweet.
  • IAmBatman #28 4 years ago

    > id have loved to tell them how fuckin shite the whole experience is

And I'm sure they would have been enlightened by your incisive and useful constructive feedback.
  • espibara #29 4 years ago

How about a female COG soldier? But my fave was Baird followed by Kim. Gotta love that blue COG armour.

Plus how about picking your chracter and tehn deciding what COG gear he couild wear. e.g. Dom in bairds clothing would be ace.
