EndWar demo on Xbox Live
Well Clancy that.
Ubisoft has popped a demo for Tom Clancy's EndWar onto Xbox Live Marketplace.
The sampler measures 1.6GB, and contains a map playable both in single-player and head-to-head battles.
Blurb for the demo states that only English, French and Spanish languages are supported, which we suppose relates to voice commands.
"Mach sie platt!" will not work, then, but "Marche lui sur la gueule!" and "Aplástalos!" will. If they are supported phrases, that is.
But there's plenty more to this action-focused real-time strategy interpretation of Tom Clancy's world than speaking at your TV.
Head over to our recent hands-on impressions of Tom Clancy's EndWar to find out more.
Tom Clancy's EndWar is due for Xbox 360 and PS3 on 7th November.

Might give it another go. Liked it, but a bit simplistic in terms of the actual war part of the gameplay.
Voice recognition really is excellent, though.

and remembering the names of each number can be tricky at first (f = foxtrot etc)

And yes, the game does teach you the phonetic alphabet. Well, some of it at least.
Darren: Yeah, I think it does work without the voice-commands. At least it seems that way from my (short) experiences with the demo. But you'll get your units moving places a lot quicker if you use them, I believe.

What was that for? I mean, I've got no love for UbiSoft either, but that seems a little unprovoked.

You can play the game without voice controls, but it is slower for ordering around units that are off screen, as you have to flick through a series of menus with the pad. Units that are on screen can be quite quickly given orders with the pad.
And the voice recognition is really impressive. I swallow my words a little and it hardly ever misses my commands. Once I even said "unit 6, move to, uh, um... (pause to try and remember what S is in radio alphabet) sierra" and it still registered.

Anyway, I'll see if I can find my headset, I guess it won't hurt to try it and I don't plan on buying the game anyway as there's simply too many other games I want before Christmas and this isn't really my "kind of thing" although I'm willing to try it.

That said, it's not a particularly in depth RTS (or at least, the demo doesn't seem to have a lot of tactical options), and with it being released at the same time as so many other games I want to play, I may look for the game early in the new year when it's cheaper.

But the voice command and possibilites seem great. I likes a lot.

Clearly lying is a way of life at Ubisoft. So yes, fuck Ubi.

At first I felt like a bit of prick giving voice commands but very quickly you become totally immersed, and any "rts" that removes clicks per second as a factor is a bonus. Kinda reminds me of Chrome Hounds in alot of ways actually (which would have been great if I could have talked any of my friends into buying it).
Oh the NATO phonetic alphabet for those that are interested (entirley from memory so expect the odd mistake)
alpha, bravo, charlie, delta, echo, foxtrot, golf, hotel, india, juliet, kilo, lima, mike, november, oscar, papa, qubec, romeo, sierra, tango, uniform, victor, whiskey, x-ray, yankee, zulu

Why, buggrit? Because now you don't feel so special because "normal" people have got their hands on your precious demo?
WAAAAH! Isn't life unfair?
Not at all, I just don't like being lied to. Ubi are making a habit of it - remember that EndWar was originally scheduled for early this year, SC: Conviction still doesn't exist, R6:V2 was broken on launch and took ages to fix yadayadayadayada.
TBH, I haven't had the time to play as much EndWar as I'd like - what I did manage to get in was nice though.

And I am sure that people affected by the events in London find you really funny. What a .....!!!!
Any way back to the game, had a go of the demo.Seemed a bit boring to be honest ,Red Alert 3 seems to be more fun with its tounge firmly in cheek.

This demo is unbelievably short. It finished before it even got started.
Online persistent campaign or whatever, yeah yeah.
And yet I want to play it again and again.... oh money woes.
