Eminem, Jay-Z to front DJ Hero

Rapper duo make, make the money.

Activision has signed rich and renowned rappers Eminem and Jay-Z to help kick-start the DJ Hero series.

The pair will offer unnamed songs to the first game, and will be the focus of post-release downloadable content later this year.

Eminem and Jay-Z will also compile two CDs of mixes to go into a special edition of the game. This has a "an advanced version" of the DJ Hero turntable peripheral, plus a swanky metal travelling case that doubles as a "performance-ready DJ stand".

DJ Hero launches on PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 later this year. We're expecting to see more at E3, and have only a teaser video with no real gameplay footage apart from character posing to look at.

That said, we do know the game will include around 100 songs, including exclusive work from DJ Shadow.

There's two reasons not to get the game then. But Shadow's a big pull

Well. There's Justice on it I suppose, mash up bootlegs of Benni Benassi & Stefani etc. All popular fare. I was secretly hoping for maybe some James Zabiela stuff. He'd be an awesome front for the game with his CDJ skills.

Fingers crossed for minimal techno DLC!

I hope this turns out to be good... I can't tell with that controller - hope it's playable at the EG Expo.

Yeah, I was starting to sway when they mentioned DJ Shadow. This should help me steer clear. I'm a huge sucker for unnecessary peripherals though...

I guess this game was always going to cater for the lowest common denominator. Would be great if they had some minimal techno and more underground music (flylo ...hudson mo.....etc etc) but i guess if your already in to that kind of music you probably have decks already..
    Still could be fun

I'm not a fan of either Jay-Z or Eminem, but DJ Hero should be focussed on hip-hop, as hip-hop DJ's are simply the best in terms of skill. My fave DJ lead music tends to be techno (Detriot, not minimal), but apart from DJ wizards like Jeff Mills and Dave Clarke (whose style is heavily inspired by his hip-hop Djing days) there isn't really enough there to inspire a video game. In much the same way an outrageously wanky guitar song full of solos is more fun on Guitar Hero, but you may not listen to it out of the game.

And anyway, a large number of the new breed of techno DJ's perform with laptops now anyway.

There is plenty of great hip-hop music out there, don't base your opinion on mainstream artists.
