Elite dated, priced in Oz

MS gets organasised.

Microsoft has stamped confirmation on the date and price for the Xbox 360 Elite and Halo Special Edition consoles in Australia, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

The Elite will launch first on 30th August for AUD 729.95 (EUR 425), followed by the Halo 3 unit on 20th September for AUD 679.95 (EUR 396). A separate 120 GB hard-drive will cost AUD 299.95 (EUR 134).

The Xbox 360 Elite features a black console, 120GB hard-drive, controller, headset, Ethernet cable, HDMI port and one month Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Announced at E3 last month, the Halo 3 Special Edition console is a standard Premium 360 but with green and gold Halo branding, a Play & Charge kit and access to exclusive Halo 3 gamer pics and themes via Xbox Live

The European Elite will go on sale next Friday for GBP 329.99. The Halo 3 unit is expected alongside the game on 26th September.

    £135 for a 120GB HDD. I see.
  • The-Bodybuilder #2 5 years ago

    Where's the price cut?

    I NEED MY CHEERIOS.
  • richardiox #3 5 years ago

£330 still getting quoted as a price for the Euro Elite. With Play.com doing Premiums for £70 less and with two bundled games rather than none, it's looking like terrible value.

In fact, it's main selling point seems to be it *may* be more reliable. A massive price to play for perceived reliability when not breaking within 12 months should be a given anyway.

    Potentially faulty machine = £260
Potentially not faulty machine = £330

The Halo edition's colour scheme is hedious.
  • Santino #5 5 years ago

If anyone tries to buy the Halo themed 360 at my work i'm going to lunge over the counter and fucking destroy their face.
  • RexRunti #6 5 years ago

MS still haven't announced a general price cut or even a price for the Elite in Europe. You'd think they were saving the information for some kind of european games conference.

"The European Elite will go on sale next Friday for GBP 329.99"

    Has MUCKROSOFT confirmed that?
  • richardiox #8 5 years ago

MS will probably (hopefully) announce an official Euro price for the Elite / price cut accross all SKUs at Leipzig. However, that would be either the day before or the day of the release of the Elite.

So if I ordered an Elite from Play.com today and they dispatched it and charged me next Wednesday i would be paying £330 for the console with no software.

It makes sense to do the announcment at Leipzig if it wasn't for the fact it's on the day the Elite hits retail.

    Elite 4.

    Every fucking time.
  • Wayne #10 5 years ago

I have pre-ordered mine from Game. Paid £50 already.
  • SIDEARM #11 5 years ago

Just cancelled my elite pre-order as I will wait a couple of weeks and get a bundle.

    Me too :)

    "£135 for a 120GB HDD. I see."

Do you? Cus it's 135 euros, not 135 quid!
  • RexRunti #14 5 years ago

    @richardiox

MS can hardly release a console without saying how much it costs so expect the announcement on the fist day of Liepzig. If you agree to pay play.com before the price is set and they then lower it they are under no obligation to offer you a partial refund. Of course if they put the price up to £425 they can't charge you more either.

    @Santino

Seems a little agressive for someone buying a 360 bundled with Halo (and if I recall correctly an HDMI port).
  • SIDEARM #15 5 years ago

I like that Halo 360 - I would go for that if it came with the 120gb HD but for some silly reason it has the old crappy drive
  • Santino #16 5 years ago

    @Rex

Thats one of the things i dislike about the halo themed console. it DOESN'T come bundled with the game you have to buy it separately on top of paying more than the premium. And newer premiums are soon going to come with HDMI ports added anyway. Plus it look pretty hideous to boot.
  • RexRunti #17 5 years ago

    @Santino

In which case it it is knda silly, but who knows someone may have a green and gold living room.
  • Wayne #18 5 years ago

lol @ gren & gold living room
  • mkreku #19 5 years ago

Why are you mocking my living room? :(

The 120 GB HDD is £129.99 in the UK as Gameplay.com have it listed for pre-order. It's ridiculously expensive considering you can buy a 500 GB 3.5" SATA HDD or a 250 GB 2.5" SATA HDD for less than £70 these days! Microsoft really are ripping people off asking that much for such a small drive.
  • Katsumoto #21 5 years ago

So is this actually going to be at all more reliable or is that just hopeful? Have the people in America reported any difference or is it still breaking left right and centre? If they got this reliability issue fixed it may tempt me back... but otherwise I guess i'll avoid it.
  • Wayne #22 5 years ago

Darren, that price isn't confirmed though.
  • Darren #23 5 years ago

@Wayne - Well Gameplay will be shipping them out in five days time so I think that *is* the final price. ;)
  • Reihn #24 5 years ago

    Dear Eurogamer,

Thank you for reporting on Australian goings on.

Funny how the publishers consider us to be a part of 'Europe', despite the fact that we're seperated by a AUD 3000 dollar air fare.

Anyway, cheers, please keep it up. It means a lot to me - seeing as how you're TEH BEST SITE ON THE 1NTERNETS.

    That is all.

  • JonFE #25 5 years ago

Darren, here in Greece they have the 120Gb HD available for pre-order at 149.99€, so maybe Gameplay have an estimated price placed, just to be on the safe side.
  • moggsy #26 5 years ago

I suspect the UK price for the Elite will be £299. That's what Marshall Ward (that well known seller of gaming hardware) have it pegged at anyway.
  • Santino #27 5 years ago

I work in Blockbuster and so far the price has stuck at £329.99. It's hard to see it changing this close to release to be honest.
  • moggsy #28 5 years ago

I work in Blockbuster and so far the price has stuck at £329.99. It's hard to see it changing this close to release to be honest.

But MS haven't confirmed the price yet so it's infinitely believable. Marshall Ward are either:

    1. Happy to sell it for a loss (highly unlikely).
    2. Have cocked up the pricing (more likely).
    3. Revealed the true price before they were supposed to as it points to a price cut across the Xbox 360 range (most likely outcome?).

I suspect the price will be announced on the first day of Leipzig (22nd) ready for the release on the 24th.
  • moggsy #29 5 years ago

If anyone at Microsoft had a brain
or used the money to better effect

the Elite would have an inbuilt HD-DVD drive
    but, oh no

Why? That'd probably make it £399 which is too expensive for a games console.

For a split second I thought you were talknig about the awesome space trading game and my heart jumped a beat.. not some un-needed SKU of the console i own which is fine.
  • TheUnionFrag #31 5 years ago

What? You mean it's not a bajillion gazillion Aussie Dollars?

I feel somewhat cheated - I was hoping to laugh at the Ozzie price.
  • slickster #32 5 years ago

elite for £329.99 put £70 to it and you buy a ps3 with blu-ray and wi-fi plus sd card reader. the elite is still the same console but with 120hdd and hdmi how meny different 360 is there and they still havant got it right.there trying make it like the ps3

Should MS cancel all of their soon to be released triple A exclusive titles to be completely in line with Sony too? ;-)
