Elite dated, priced in Oz
MS gets organasised.
Microsoft has stamped confirmation on the date and price for the Xbox 360 Elite and Halo Special Edition consoles in Australia, GamesIndustry.biz reports.
The Elite will launch first on 30th August for AUD 729.95 (EUR 425), followed by the Halo 3 unit on 20th September for AUD 679.95 (EUR 396). A separate 120 GB hard-drive will cost AUD 299.95 (EUR 134).
The Xbox 360 Elite features a black console, 120GB hard-drive, controller, headset, Ethernet cable, HDMI port and one month Xbox Live Gold subscription.
Announced at E3 last month, the Halo 3 Special Edition console is a standard Premium 360 but with green and gold Halo branding, a Play & Charge kit and access to exclusive Halo 3 gamer pics and themes via Xbox Live
The European Elite will go on sale next Friday for GBP 329.99. The Halo 3 unit is expected alongside the game on 26th September.

I NEED MY CHEERIOS.

In fact, it's main selling point seems to be it *may* be more reliable. A massive price to play for perceived reliability when not breaking within 12 months should be a given anyway.
Potentially faulty machine = £260
Potentially not faulty machine = £330

Has MUCKROSOFT confirmed that?

So if I ordered an Elite from Play.com today and they dispatched it and charged me next Wednesday i would be paying £330 for the console with no software.
It makes sense to do the announcment at Leipzig if it wasn't for the fact it's on the day the Elite hits retail.

MS can hardly release a console without saying how much it costs so expect the announcement on the fist day of Liepzig. If you agree to pay play.com before the price is set and they then lower it they are under no obligation to offer you a partial refund. Of course if they put the price up to £425 they can't charge you more either.
@Santino
Seems a little agressive for someone buying a 360 bundled with Halo (and if I recall correctly an HDMI port).

Thats one of the things i dislike about the halo themed console. it DOESN'T come bundled with the game you have to buy it separately on top of paying more than the premium. And newer premiums are soon going to come with HDMI ports added anyway. Plus it look pretty hideous to boot.

Thank you for reporting on Australian goings on.
Funny how the publishers consider us to be a part of 'Europe', despite the fact that we're seperated by a AUD 3000 dollar air fare.
Anyway, cheers, please keep it up. It means a lot to me - seeing as how you're TEH BEST SITE ON THE 1NTERNETS.
That is all.

But MS haven't confirmed the price yet so it's infinitely believable. Marshall Ward are either:
1. Happy to sell it for a loss (highly unlikely).
2. Have cocked up the pricing (more likely).
3. Revealed the true price before they were supposed to as it points to a price cut across the Xbox 360 range (most likely outcome?).
I suspect the price will be announced on the first day of Leipzig (22nd) ready for the release on the 24th.

or used the money to better effect
the Elite would have an inbuilt HD-DVD drive
but, oh no
Why? That'd probably make it £399 which is too expensive for a games console.

I feel somewhat cheated - I was hoping to laugh at the Ozzie price.

Should MS cancel all of their soon to be released triple A exclusive titles to be completely in line with Sony too?
