Recruit WAR players, get free stuff News

MMO PC News by Robert Purchese

23 April, 2009

Mythic has revealed alluring incentives for players to recruit their friends into the world of Warhammer Online.

For every successful WAR recruit you will earn 30-days of free game time.

Recruit two friends and your faction King will present you with a loyal pet: an Imperial Hunting Hound for Order and a Warlord's Fell Hound for Destruction.

Recruit four friends to receive The Rod of Service for Order or the Collar of Servitude for Destruction. Each gives groups a five per cent bonus to experience and renown earned. Furthermore, the items can boost a friend's level to within two of your own so you can adventure together.

Go on to recruit six friends, however, and you will receive a very flash winged mount. Order has an Imperial Griffon and Destruction has an Enslaved Manticore. The Griffon looks better.

Here comes the small print: recruits can be anyone who hasn't played WAR for more than 60 days, and they must become paying subscribers to count.

Friends will need to click the email link to access the 10-day free trial, and invites can be recalled whenever. Also, rewards can be applied retroactively for any recruits already turned subscriber.

Head to the Warhammer Online Account Center to send out invites.

Update: This deal is currently restricted to US players. GOA has no announcement to make regarding European deals just yet.

Warhammer Online is currently mid-way through the Call to Arms "live expansion" and recently begun the Beyond the Sands event. Meaty patch 1.2 preceded this, adding Dwarf Slayer and Orc Choppa classes among a host of other bits.

I convinced 8 of my friends to subscribe to it at launch and they don't listen to me anymore.

Everyone I know who would like WAR is already playing it. Everybody else either dislikes MMORPGs or thinks that computer games are crap.

Can't we get an item for sticking with the game since launch? Pah, loyalty gets you nothing these days. I remember when this was all fields, grumble, grumble.

Did you get the Welcome Back quests? They only give trophies and talismans but better than a poke in the eye with a pointy stick etc. I reckon they're supposed to be there to ease people who return to the game back into it (a nice idea) but for some reason I got them on my account despite never having let it lapse. I think it might be because there was an issue with the billing for a week or two after launch where you could play but not enter your credit card details so maybe their system thought I'd left the game and come back. Dunno, still I like my War Mug every dwarf should have one. Ya never know when you'll want a drink. Well you do, I mean dwarves always do. :)

BTW this has been in the game in the US for a couple of months and they are working on it for here, according to Nilax the Community Manager in the official forums here (login required so here's the "scoop"):
Yep we are working with Mythic to get this on this side of the pond as well.

Don't have an ETA for you on this yet but as more information becomes available we'll let you know!

@sneetch: Nope, don't think I have those quests, but I'm at work now so I can't check. In fact, I shouldn't even be writing this, so keep it quiet!

You got the welcome back quests if you cancelled sub and reactivated, in order to get out of the auto-renew on your account they set up. I did anyway.
