Eidos quiet on new Deus Ex News

Hopefully it'll be more like the first (classic) game, and less like the second (good but flawed).

I'd quite like a vast world to explore, like Oblivion, but set in the future, obv.

Oh go on Eidos please make it happen.

Sure the second one was not as good but that was only because the shoes it had to fit were huge. As a stand alone product Deus Ex 2 was a classic...So was Thief 3 so make a sequel to that while you are at it.

And finally Tomb Raider for 360/PS3.

I'd be very excited if another Deus Ex was announced but I'm still very let down by Invisible Wars, what a weak followup that was.

Yes it's not as good. No, it's not that bad.

Deux Ex 2 was also designed largely for the consoles port, which kinda ruined it on the pc.

The original was far better as it was solely design for the pc base.

I would like a sequel to Anachronox; but seeing as no one bought the original which was excellent, hows about an Unreal 3 engined remake?

Eidos have a wealth of IP's.

What was it about IW? I never even got out of the city, and I tried three or four times.
Didn't get it.

Deus Ex, though! Hooked from start to finish.

As if they'll be hiring and setting up an operational studio without a project... I'm reading that as a confirmation.

One problem I see is the new game's placement in the DX timeline. DX1 had a very open ending that left a lot of room for continuation. IW on the other hand was in my opinion more of a shut case; none of the endings allowed for much ambiguity.

None, with the possible exception of the WTO's Ophelia. Now there's an idea...

Deus Ex is still a 10 out of 10 game now, just with shoddy graphics. It's the only game I can think of which gives you (the illusion of) freedom and a good story. A story which takes into account the smallest actions you've made.

As said, the original Deus Ex is STILL a 10/10 game. So marvelous, and still ahead of its time imo. I pray that this is true, and will be closer to the original than IW was, which was disappointing.

Invisble war was good, just let down by it's shoddy unreal engine and it's relatively short length.

Please make another Thief. DeadlyShadows was brilliant, still in my top 10 all time great games. So much Atmos,style,story just everything was so very good. Deus 2 was a BIG let down after the brilliant first one, did I play that on a PS2 I can't remember but I loved it.

As well as it being an absolute bobby dazzler of a game (if not my No.1), I still feel it's got some of the best script/voice work ever. Top that off with the slightly downbeat 80s sound-track and, well... [squirt].

I think any DE sequel is going to suffer from high expectations. IW was really quite an ok game, but it had high expectations to live up to. Just like Killzone was quite well turned out, but had been hyped as a Halo beater and simply wasn't up to the task.

Just like Oblivion suffered some critisism from Morrowind fans, I would expect that any DE sequel will divide people. There will always be some people accusing it os being dumbed down, like the idiots that said the same of IW BEFORE anything was known about it JUST BECAUSE it was going to be on a console (whether any of those concerns turned out to be true is not really the point).

Like any game, the franchise with which a game is associated is nowhere near as important as how its development is handled by the people in charge. In fact some might argue (me being one) that a franchise counts for very little other than a marketing tool (I wouldn't say it counts for nothing, as playing a well known character in a game does bring enjoyment for some).

All I ask of this is that it gives me en enjoyable game experience. If that game experience is very similar to the one I had when playing the original DE (I am also very firmly in the 10/10 camp) then all the better. Whether it has DE stamped on the box or not is not hugely relevant to me, unless (as I would suggest many people might agree) it turns out badly, in which case the franchise association will probably make the pill even more bitter.

Dangerous things franchises.

To be honest. I'm not sure where a true Deus Ex sequel could go. I'd prefer a "spirtual succesor" to be honest. A game where every little action you take has (or appears to have) consequences. In the original walking in to the ladies, shooting an unarmed terrorist leader, saving your brother, following orders to the letter, being polite to an injured colleague all meant something. If you play Deus Ex in a simular way (not exact) several times you will get different experiences. The sequel didn't cover that as well as the original but it did let you choose sides which was my main problem with DE1. Any game that did all the above well would be an instant purchase in my book, whether it had Deus Ex written on it or not.

I think the point with IW was it was such a climbdown from DE, and still obviously believed itself to be living up to the standard when it transparently wasn't, not that it was bad per se. I certainly didn't hate it but I was underwhelmed. I put the change down to console-friendliness changes at the time and avoided it for a while, but once I actually got and played it, it was apparent it was just basically lacking in complexity. I spent the second half of it not taking it seriously, killing enemies by throwing armchairs and flaming barrels at them, and that made it much more interesting. Got my money's worth in unitentional humour instead.

I was disappointed by Project Snowblind too. That was apparently supposed to be DE universe up until the last minute, and had much potential but little realisation of same. Enjoyable but flawed. Still, it's another option for DE sequels etc, rather than following the Denton clan.

I wondered why the working title was 'Deus Ex: Super arse-crack monkey bannana hammock skittles bunting Red Bull'.

The thing was about IW, was that it was very small compared to the original. In the original, the levels were bigger, full of interesting stuff, what the characters had to say, tactical manouvers to make.
IW was too short, the story was so so compared to the original (and even though warren Spector thought so , the big words in the game were just coming from the interesting parts of the game, you know what I mean)

the original just had a better style too.

I think the up coming game Bioshock will be a true successor to Deus Ex, But I dont know if it will have the same Philosophical info in there like Deus Ex did (like the Morpheus Ai in the illuminati base, the NSF Comander in the liberty tower, stuff like that gave me a real buzz, becuase it was very relevent and interesting)

I just loved all the intellectual stuff that was in it(Human enhacement, biomods, Ethics, Politics)
And I hope there will be interesting Ethical conversations with the peopl in the world of Bioshock, or at least discovering what happend to them.

I'd prefer Warren Spector and the old Ion Storm guys who worked on the original to be at th ehelm of a 3rd Deus Ex. PC only, no console ports to worry about, with the same focus on complexity like the original.

Just do a remake of Deus Ex with top-notch gfx and I'll be happy.
