Eidos quiet on Dr. Who

But developer nods head.

UK developer Ironstone Partners has confirmed it is working on a Dr. Who game for DS, PS2 and PC.

It was originally unveiled on the back of a pack of Top Trumps cards, and will apparently be based on the deck inspired by the popular science-fiction television series.

Unfortunately publisher Eidos was sticking to no comment, but we expect more information to crop-up soon.

Dr. Who looks likely to be aimed at a casual audience, probably those with a giant telephone box or a whisker and toilet-plunger for arms.

We think Jon Pertwee was the the best Doctor. Fashionable and brainy. What do you think, readers? Prefer Tom Baker?

    Tom Baker. Very obviously.

    Yep, Pertwee was class.

Loved the whole UNIT / Dr interaction aswell. Had a great old car too.

Its a tie between Baker and Pertwee for me, then Ecclestone probably.

Not surprising Eidos is quiet on Doctor Who...

    ...considering it's Ubisoft title.
  • fiery_jackass #8 5 years ago

the answer is Tom Baker, clearly. David Tennant has come on by huge leaps and bounds despite some truly horrible writing and series direction.

Best three episodes of last season were not written by RTD, that's for sure....

The question is who was the best Dr Who's assistant?
  • Kelduum #11 5 years ago

Tom Baker for the win, but I much prefered Christopher Eccleston to David Tennant.

    Even though hes invisible now.

I pretty much hate the new Dr Who. I can't understand why it's so big over here.

Terrible acting. Terrible script. Terrible storylines. Terrible everything....... well apart from Martha.....

Its not a Ubisoft title, Ironstone Partners hold the rights to the Top Trumps games and at the time when the deal went through their publishers was Ubisoft. Since then though Eidos has bought them and no doubt the licence came with it.

Its no wonder Eidos are keeping quiet about it, last thing they want is huge hype of a Doctor Who game and it turns out to be a shitty top trumps budget game

You didn't see the episode titled 'Blink' then?
  • Dr.Mott #16 5 years ago

    @ Owen-B

I've always said "Oobisoft", but officially, it's "Youbesoft".
  • Triggerhappytel #17 5 years ago

Owen-B "Do you say "Oobisoft" or "Youbesoft"?"

I used to say 'YouBeeEyesoft', but now due to peer pressure I say 'YouBeesoft'.

Anyway, I won't be holding my breath for this too much, but the more ideal kind of Doctor Who game would be an adventure type, not dissimilar to Fahrenheit (only hopefully better, as I thought that was awful) or perhaps In Cold Blood.

Best episode was Don't Blink, written by the chappie behind Hustle, Tony Jordan I think his name is.

There was a rather good Doctor Who game released in the 80s I believe, on the Commodore 64 or Amiga... I only vaguely remember it though which doesn't really sell its quality but I do recall it got very positive reviews.

Tom Baker was by far the best of the classic Doctors, but that's likely because he was from my "era", and Sylvester McCoy was the worst but then the poor guy had to struggle with totally appalling scripts. I do think the current Doctor, David Tennant, is excellent though and if he hangs around long enough he could be the best one yet. That scene with him and Rose at the end of Season Two was very emotional and showed how good they both were as actors... I admit it brought a tear or two to my eyes...

    Patrick Troughton was awesome... :p

    @ Moggsy

"You didn't see the episode titled 'Blink' then?"

That was an exceptional programme in general, let alone being the stand out Dr Who episode of the Ecclestone/Tennant series'.

It was intelligent, funny, scary, emotional, concise and didn't rely on that annoying sonic screwdriver to save the day for N'th time.
  • SomaticSense #21 5 years ago

Blink was good, as was the one with the gas mask wearing children. Both were written by the same bloke I believe, so it's no coincidence that these were miles better than the rest.

Maybe they should get him to write ALL the episodes, that way the series might be at least halfway worthy of the hype. In my opinion of course.....

I hate to go with the new ones, but I have to say David Tenant is pure genius

strange mix for it to come out on, i mean i would understand it being a pc game, but bringing it out on a pretty much outdated console and a handheld?

Something tells me the game ain't gonna work out too well though, but I geuss we'll have to see
  • kingmob #23 5 years ago

    Troughton FTW!

Pertwee was cool but suffered from samey storylines. Baker sometimes got a bit too spazzy for my tastes

gingerlink - "strange mix for it to come out on, i mean i would understand it being a pc game, but bringing it out on a pretty much outdated console and a handheld?"

But it's coming out on the consoles which are most likely to be owned by youths. How many, say, under 12s do you know have a 360 or PS3? Hardly any, I'd wager. That's the market they'll be aiming at with what is probably going to be a fairly poor cash-in.
  • Daryoon #25 5 years ago

Hold on, is this suggesting they're making the Dr Who game a card game?

Russel T Davies meets YuGiOh? AWESOME!

    Steven Moffatt.

A DW game could be brilliant; play ten Doctors across ten eras on however many planets, meddling with history to assist your earlier and later selves... Unfortunately it'd be a mammoth effort, well beyond the pissweak ambitions of most devs, particularly those saddled with a licensed property...

Oh well. How about Strip Poker with Freema Agyeman?

(...with our luck she'll be replaced by Catherine Tate a few months before final release...)

"It was originally unveiled on the back of a pack of Top Trumps cards, and will apparently be based on the deck inspired by the popular science-fiction television series."

So...they're making a Doctor Who Top Trumps computer game? They *really* need to employ me as a game designer. What a complete waste of time and money. As is so often the case with a licence, it holds so much potential that is then completely ignored to produce a decidedly mediocre game.
