Eidos files Kane & Lynch 2 trademark
Subtitled Dog Days, apparently.
Eidos filed a trademark for Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days earlier this month, suggesting that a long-rumoured sequel is indeed on the way.
The posting, spotted by superannuation, was filed for use with videogames by Eidos on 8th July.
We've not heard anything back from the publisher about it yet.
However, Eidos has actually been open about the idea of a sequel for nearly two years, with Eidos' then CEO Jane Kavanagh telling MCV that year, "We've already got Kane & Lynch 2 in production, which just goes to show the belief we have in it as a long-term franchise."
The original Kane & Lynch: Dead Men picked up a 7/10 review at the time of release.

And the name is a "Dog Day Afternoon" reference I guess.

Somehow it managed to be a reasonably satisfying game, so that alone should bode well for a sequel - they just need to get rid of the dependencies on buddy AI and smooth some of the ludicrous difficulty spikes.

It seemed very dated in terms of both graphics and gameplay. I picked it up for around 7 quid and havent had my monies worth.
It might be one to go back to, but I havent had the slightest inclination in 6 months...

The lack of variation within the first game was indeed a problem, duly identified by Kristan in his review, but Kane & Lynch remains one of the most underrated video games in recent times. It promised a lot of progress and maturity for the medium, in spite of a few gimmicky moments too much rooted in traditional video game territory. I can't wait for the second one.
Hey, a few years down the road perhaps Kane & Lynch will feature in one of those great Sunday retrospectives of EG. It certainly deserves a place next to Pathologic and Vampire: Bloodlines.
