Advent Rising Reader Review

I had high hopes for this game, which by and large were dashed by the overly critical reviews.

With hindsight this is good, becuase if you go in expecting the second coming you will be dissapointed. This is not Halo.

That said, it is an awful lot of fun Sure, it's a bit broken, the sound cutting out is especially annoying, but the gunplay is fast and furious, the vehicle are a blast, and the story is engaging. It's a B movie, with a big budget gloss. Ocassionaly the back drop falls down, and you see the stage hands caught in the glare of the lights. But for the most part, it's very playable.

From reading the reviews, they say that when you become superman that it gets too easy, since I've yet to get there I can't comment, and to be honest, since I imported it I've found other things to play. But "on song" it makes you forget it's foibles. Lest we forget Half-Life2 had similar problems, they fixed them as it was a PC game. This is an Xbox game, perhaps if they ever get around to doing the other 2 parts of the trilogy they'll pack a fix for the first, who knows.

But, for all of this, it's a lot of fun, and they tried real hard to make something new, sometimes they fail, most of the time they don't. It's certainly worth renting.
