Urban Reign Reader Review
I have to say I cannot disagree with an official review here more than with Urban reign.
It's true that Urban Reign isn't scientific. It's not exactly varied. But what Urban Reign has is I believe more important than either of those things. A little thing called fun.
Now some people may complain about the difficulty of some of the battles in the story mode. I won't disagree, some fights cough Mission 91 cough are pretty sickeningly tough... at first. Yet this is where actually, you know, strategising and learning the game's system comes into play. And it's not really as cheap as say, an SNK final boss or even that Dural-Kasumi thingy from DOA4.
Okay, so say we presume that this game is actually fun to play. What then does it have to offer? 60 relatively varied characters. A really fun 4 player mode. A Free mode that you can play for ranking (you thought the game was tough first time round, try going for S Ranks on them). A great weapon system, a great counter system and a great grapple system. Actually just an awesome combat system in general.
Don't believe any reviews why ignore the good aspects of this game. Whilst a lot of the complaints made about it are reasonable, I think the main reason for the medoicre reviews is that simply, this game is misunderstood. It's not Tekken, or Soul Calibur despite drawing heavily from those games, instead it hearkens more to games like Wu-Tang (another misunderstood game) and Def Jam: Fight for NY, and perhaps even the likes of Streets of Rage and Final Fight.
And above all, I had fun playing this game. Real fun, and I don't think a beat em up can rank any higher than that.
