Madden NFL 2006 Reader Review
American Football is generally a game overlooked in Britain as being nothing more than a bunch of "panzies" trying to play Rugby. This is simply not the case. American Football is not as complex as it sounds but is a very tactical game so in brief for all you newbies out there here's how it works.
The field is 100 yards. You have 3 downs (3 attempts) to make ten yards by either passing or running the ball. There are two goalines with a space of ten yards to the end of the field so technically the whole field is 120 yards. You don't have to actually touchdown the ball to score as long as the ball goes over the line even by millimetres you score. 1 point for kicking through the goals after a touchdown. You can also kick field goals within range for 3 points.
So with that out of the way let's talk about Madden NFL 06. Madden as always features the life-sapping Franchise Mode. Here is where you can take charge of any of the 32 NFL teams making all the key decisions like who you draft, free agency and getting rid of players it's all here. You can also change ticket prices and so on. There is nothing better then taking a team like the Cardinals from nothing to Superbowl contenders. This and much more is at your disposal in Franchise Mode.
New this year is the Superstar Mode where you get to become an NFL player. First you start off with a flawed DNA process where you have to choose your parents which make you a better or worse player. You then hire an agent declare for the draft and your'e good to go. This mode isn't as good as the Franchise Mode though as you have no control over team affairs. Still a nice addition but there's nothing that's going to want you keep playing this mode. You also have multiplayer albiet offline and you can set up your own tournaments etc. The sound is great with the commentary from John Madden and Al Michaels.
If you have any interest in sports games whatsoever you owe it to yourself to give Madden NFL 06 a shot. This is my PES the best sports game ever and with a Franchise Mode that will keep you playing for some time it's a pleasure to play. Even if you don't like American Football this might well convert you.
