Peter Jackson's King Kong Reader Review
This review is on King Kong on the playstation 2 format, i will split this review up into 5 parts. Gameplay/Graphics/Lifespan/Extras/Last word.
The game is not a FPS but a FPA its not set out as great as it could be as there isnt a HUD so when you are walking around without a weapon drawn its just first person and a empty screen with no ammo information or anything like that. This is because Ubisoft have tried to make it like a interactive movie and without a map onscreen more than once you can get lost but the game is too difficult. Actually its pretty simple just go round finding spears setting them on fire clearing grass and opening doors and killing dinosaurs. You find crates littered around the jungle with weapons and ammo in with never as much as you need so alot of the time its you and a spear against a T-Rex. Its get very repetitive going around shooting and exploring the jungle but its very atmospheric and gets you on edge as you walk through the river. The kong parts arent as great as they could be ive seen alot of reviews praise them but i didnt enjoy them too much, they get a bit repetitive just punching and mauling your enemy as i said i preferred the parts where you play jack darrow this is the only character you play in the game apart from kong who you play with aswell. The gameplay is fun and addictive but not great but keeps you asking question which is a good thing.
Graphics The graphics are your average ps2 grapgics not much to say the character dont seem jaggy at all they are smooth and the scenery is ok. The game is very atmospheric with the creepy music as you walk through the jungle this builds tension which is great as you play the game.
Lifespan The game is not particulary long with about 7-9 hours of gameplay so you can complete this in a weekend but its fun while it lasts and action packed.
Extras The extras come available as you play meaning higher % of game completion and more extras. There not that great they range from trailers to galleries. The one extra thats worth getting is when you can play again and kong survives and he flys back to skull island in a plane.
Last word. King Kong is breaking the mould of games of movies = crap. Its a good game short lived but its very enjoyable it has its upsides aswell as its downsides but a good game at that.
