Battlefield 1943 Reader Review
Downloadable games seem to almost take over real games in quality these days. You have such PSN games like Burn Zombie Burn, Wipeout HD, and Pain But no dev has seemed to master a downloadable FPS. Until now. GamesCom and DICE have created perhaps the best downloadable game this year.
Battlefields online play is intense. The two teams of normally 12 go at a full on war for the 5 flags. You have people of completely different strategys going head to head which makes every thing a lot more challenging. People will hide and snipe, others go all out with subs to capture the flags, and others will go in the middle with rifles and wait for an unexpected jeep to rifle grenade them.
The vehicles are a major contributor to the game. People who are skilled in Tanks own the battlefield and seem unstoppable until BOOM! You see the smoke trail from your Bazooka come down on the tank and the explosion sends the other team running. The jeep can be a deadly vehicle if you have a sensible driver and someone who can man a machine gun turret well. The only problem is that the jeep is really weak and can blow up if you drive into a tree to fast. And lastly, the most useful vehicle on the game... the Plane. If a plane is used correctly it can win battles with correctly timed bombs and bullets. The only flaw with the plane is that it is hard to control.
There are 3 classes in the game to choose from. Scout, Infantry and Rifleman. All of the 3 are useful in there own ways. And in situations they are better than eachother. Say if you was to snipe an infantry, they wouldnt stand a chance. If you were to do the same to a rifleman the rifleman may have a chance of getting you back. If a rifleman or a sniper was to come one on one with infantry on the other hand, the infantry would kill them off in seconds. You have to work tactics with the guns. Infantry tend to be mental and run around and chase after everything. Scouts hide and pick off enemys, whilst Riflemen do a bit of both.
Apart from Wake Island, 2 new maps have been added onto 1943. Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal are two great maps that better Wake Island in every way. Iwo Jima is set on a big island with a mountain on one side (Which is also a capture point) and an airfield on the other side. I personally think that Airfield is a better place to take over but The mountain is useful aswell. Also on Iwo Jima there is a lighthouse which is a perfect place for scouts and riflemen to take over. Guadalcanal is also set on one big island but the island has 3 mountains taking up the room. It has loads of AA Guns mounted to the top of the mountains to take down the planes. Also instead of having boats to start off on, you start in two air bases located at either side of the island. The two new maps are exceptionally well designed. Also a new map was unlocked a while ago which is a planes only map where you have dogfights with the other teams.
All in all Battlefield 1943 is an excellent game and is well worth the £9.99 price. It has its faults with the vehicles and infantrys gun is rather weak. But other than them small issues it is a game that should be bought if your a fan of Call Of Duty or Far Cry coz it is almost up to the standard of them two games. Buy it now!
