Overlord II Reader Review

Reader Review by DUFFMAN5

Watcha. I have been playing Overlord II for many hours and have just got to the Blue (last group) minions. I have to say I'm unimpressed overall, which is a shame as I enjoyed the first game on the 360. I feel the game suffers from a lot of niggles, that when taken on their own are fine but collectively they become a frustrating pain. The first thing is the control system, it doesn't work, the minions are a total pain in the behind to control effectively, this also goes for the default camera position, being to close to the Overlord. Wait until you get to the Spiders lair, and have to climb our of the well/pit. The central Hub/ Tower is set out all wrong, takes too long to get the interface up and to get to your Armoury or smelting pot. The last game got a lot of criticism and rightly so about the lack of a mini-map (the ps3 version got this added late) well we do have the on screen map now, but it is so poor they should not have bothered, one of the worse I have had the misfortune of trying to navigate.

I have enjoyed parts of the game and continue to do so, the humour is good, the minions whistling Colonel Bogey March while in Roman Centurion style get up was genuinely laugh out loud for me. The spell casting is good and when you do take over an area or free some Reds/Greens ect you feel all powerful (sadly only in-game) I feel overall the game has not improved over the first, in fact maybe gone backwards. A real shame, if we get a third it will need overhauling for me.
