Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Reader Review
First of all, the only Metroid game I've played was Super Metroid in the Virtual Console and I didnīt like it that much. It was a good game, but nothing very special. Iīve never played any of the previous Prime either, so I have no experience at all in Metroid.
When I started the game, I was wondering how they could change the 2D Metroid for the 3D Metroid. Ok, if you are reading this review, thereīs a possibility that youīve already played the previous Prime, so the change doesnīt affect you. But it affected me. When I started the game, I found it a bit confusing. The map was weird and it was hard to figure out where to go. For me, the beggining of the game is very strange, and makes you want to quit. Anyway, all people I spoke to said that the beggining of the game is amazing. Again, I think the problem here is that Iīve never played any 3D Metroid.
The first planet (Norion) is almost a tutorial one. It worked for me, because I started to understand more of the gameīs mechanics. But then, I think the developers made a mistake: Bryyo shouldnīt be the second planet to visit. Itīs hard and a bit boring. The third planet, Elysia should have been the second one. I almost quit the game when I couldnīt solve a puzzle in Bryyo. I tried a few more times, and Iīm glad that I did.
Iīm one of those people that think that the gameīs history is very important to it. I love Final Fantasys for their history, for example. I was able to understand most of this gameīs history and even enjoy it, even if I didnīt know any of the previous games. There are a few cool moments in the game, but I wonīt spoil them to you. I like the futuristic design of this game, as I like to see how things work, and the environment in the game is just fine. Iīve read in forums that this game is scary: Itīs not. Iīm not trying to act like a tough guy (Oblivionīs dungeons scared me) but this isnīt just scary. The developers tried to make Valhalla a very scary area but I didnīt thought that. Well, I guess thereīs a moment in Elysia where it gets a bit scary, but again, no spoils. If you play the game, you will find that moment.
The bosses in this game are very well done. There are three fights that makes you stand up and the final boss is just amazing and very hard to defeat. I guess I should have collected a few more Energy Tanks, but I was too lazy for that. The music and the graphics are ok (remember, this is a Wii and, by the way, I couldnīt care less for the graphics) but itīs in the gameplay where this game truly shines.
The gameplay of this game is perfect. The way you point the Wii Remote to the screen itīs brilliant. Itīs simple and effective. The use of the Nunchuk is very good as well. This game is a joy to play. When youīre finishing it, you just wish it had one more level. The game isnīt very big (it took me 16:31, but I used faqs in some stuff) but I only had 70 % of the game completed, so it could be around the 20 hours of gameplay. And after you complete the game, you unlock another difficulty (Hypermode Difficulty) which I may try one day.
This game has some minor flaws (in the beggining) but overall itīs amazing. It has the best gameplay in the Wii (Iīm yet to play Super Mario Galaxy), good graphics and music, and a good story. Itīs a must buy.
