Condemned: Criminal Origins Reader Review

Modern horror-games are based on scenarios, you'd rather not even think of in real world. Like when you pass a closed, dark metro-station, and you see it from your metro, I can damn well bet you don't want to be there, in the dark... Well guess what. This game is full of those moments!

Mannequins

You are Agent Ethan Thomas, FBI. Weird stuff has been going on in the streets. Twisted addicts everywhere, people freaked out. And murderers. That's your trade. You are there to investigate a freaky murder. A dead woman, sitting around a table with one mail mannequin, the scene surrounded with weird eyes. Just when you're done collecting evidence, you and two collegues get the feeling this suspect, the "Match Maker", is still in the building. You find him, but with consequences. The guy steals your gun and kills two of your colleques. Nice, now the police thinks you committed those murders and you've got no idea who this guy is, and who's the Match Maker. So who's the Match Maker, and who the hell is trying to frame you?

Melee

This game offers a well-balanced gameplay with cheeky weapons and sweet horror-style maps. Main combat in Condemned is mostly melee (locker doors, circuits, wooden planks) with block-hit combos, but you'll also find a firearm now and then. Firearms only carry the ammo they have, so no reloading, and they break when used in melee-combat, so you're gonna have to be resourceful. The combat is overly agressive, with your enemies making weird noices and calling names at you, but you're gonna have to calm if you want to get those guys without them killing you. Every hit just feels good. This game gives that "wow, that's harsh"-"that's gotta hurt"-feeling. You can see those bastards suffering, and those executions... Sweet.

Horror

Monolith, famous of the game F.E.A.R., succeeded to create the gore, rancid and violent horror-style that keeps you concentrated for the rest of the game. You're always afraid something's gonna happen. You know what I mean: Moving department store mannequins, twisted humans coming out of the water, and oh you're going to be blasted in the level with the school-teacher... Anyway, if you like a good scare and you're so masochistic that you actually like to shit your pants, try this game.

Overall

Great game, especially because of that dark horror-feeling and great combat-animations. This is almost a movie!
