F.E.A.R. Reader Review

I've developed a fear of Japanese school girls with very long fringes.

Nothing can compare to the slow grind of a japanese horror film and the almost catacalismic moment that sweeps over your body as the truth unfolds. It all started with Ringu, looking deep into that television static and watching in mortified horror as it slowly took shape forming the ring of light that would become one unfortunate young ladies final view of the world. In the months and years that followed my fear disapated, only to pop up again in Dark Water and the Grudge.

I've developed a fear of Japanese school girls with very long fringes.

Someone out there comes up with the idea of putting afor mentioned school girl into a first person shooter.I'm playing this game having a great time and suddenly, unexpectadly "she" is walking towards me surrounded by an sea of fire, agony and a shimmering, reality warping aura of hate! I of course do what every god fearing texan would. I empty a whole lot of clips into her juvenile body. She doesnt miss a beat continueing her trudging advance towards me.

F.E.A.R. Is going to begin like any other modern FPS, it will have a little cut scene footage rendered with the in game engine, you'll step out of your vehicle , look around at a semi delapitated industrial complex and think "hey Half life 2". Its not Half Life 2, its something different, its HL2's meaner cousin, and you dont know exactly how mean until you pick up that submachine gun and enter a room full of bad guys.

F.E.A.R. is about contrast, the enviroments are totally mind numbingly boring, this isnt the mechanical draughtsmans wet dream that we call Doom3 or Rambo's tropical island of choice (Far Cry). Its that level in Ninja Gaiden, you know the one where you have to fight your way through a single warehouse with those bloody annoying flying robots. The catch is,what was less than 10% of Ninja Gaiden is 100% of F.E.A.R. So whats the contrast? Pull the trigger and find out! suddenly that roger whittaker cd distribution plant that youve been walking around in, turns into a john woo film.(one of the old ones)

Graphics are really difficult to give an opinion on since the enviroments are sooo dull, the corpses and gore are also a little boring and nowhere near Resident evil standards, however and it remains the amazing thing with F.E.A.R. put your finger on the trigger and it all changes into a thing of real beauty.

Sound as you would imagine is astounding, you will know where that cash went when you engage EAX 2 and let this baby totally freak you out.

And gameplay? I really think that is the same as the graphics, when the gloves are off there are very few games that can be as visceral and induce adrenaline charged outbursts of rage or replicate the elated feeling as you see your enemy drop to the ground under a hale of armor piercing sub machine gun fire. There are however lots and lots of games inside and outside of the genre that do a much better job of the architecture and enviroments.

Like Guns, scared of little japanese girls, enjoy quality gaming ....get this game.

Looking for something creative and inovative dont kid yourself its not here.
