Sonic The Hedgehog Reader Review
Sonic has been gracing our homes since the Sega Megadrive in 1991 and has become one of the most recognisable characters on the planet, with many games and appearing on many consoles you would think that over the years Sega and Sonic Team would have made the series better. But have they just done the complete opposite with the début outing on the next generation consoles?
Sonic The Hedgehog takes inspiration from a number of old Sonic games including Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes, with the limited free roaming from Sonic Adventure and the ability to have 2 friends with you from Sonic Heroes, this just proves that Sonic Team are becoming a bit lazy in their pursuit to finally make a good 3D Sonic game.
Sonic The Hedgehog revolves around the city of Soleanna, which looks a bit like Venice and the Flames of Disaster (well done Sega really original) and a princess called Elise who's father dies and is the key to unleashing the monster Iblis, and of course Dr Eggman (or Dr Robotnick)is trying to kidnap her, as he does in virtually every Sonic game EVER, and the spikey blue one has to save her.
Sonic The Hedgehog contains 3 story lines with each of the main hedgehogs having 2 "Amigos" who are playable to some extent, the 3 main characters are Sonic, Shadow and the new guy Sliver. Silvers abilities make you go "wow" the first time you see them as you can pick up items using your minds and throw them at enemies and his amigos are Amy and Blaze the Cat from Sonic Rush who you use about 2 or maybe 3 times within his story.
The gameplay in Sonic The Hedgehog is simply terrible, you will find yourself doing parts of levels over and over again because of the bad camera angles, the parts where you are super fast as Sonic are the most frustrating as you are never sure when to jump and where abouts you have to position yourself
If you are looking for a 3D Sonic game that may be even considered good get Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Wii, but if you are looking for a good platformer you have come to the wrong place to get one
