Call of Duty 3 Reader Review
The developers for COD3 had a challenge to top the 2nd game by Infinity Ward. Treyarch have tried to add new ideas to the 3rd game but they become very boring very quickly. The close-combat is very basic and poor, after pressing the L&R triggers in turn, then pressing the correct button will kill the german solider. You can't avoid it and becomes dull, it would of been better to leave it out. Other new ideas are rotating the control sticks as shown on screen to screw in the detonator for bombs and driving a jeep. Both ideas are ok but the game needs something more like better AI for your team mates who kill them self faster than a suicidal lemming.
The graphics are much nicer than before but does not let you climb over small objects, forcing you to take the long route. Getting stuck on scenery gets annoying (usually in the houses). On the 2nd mission, after clearing the farm house, I went to go onto the next bit by falling through the hole in the floor and got stuck each time. After the 3rd reload I managed to get through the gap. In my view the game feels rushed out with the priority put on graphics. One big improvement is multiplayer mode, lots of new modes assuming you can connect.
The game is not terrible, the lack of good new ideas and glitches bring the score down. Also there are quite a few other games out at the minute which deserve your money more. I paid £24 on import for the game but paying the UK retail price is too much for the game.
