Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Reader Review

Reader Review by nightride

25 September, 2006

resurected

as an adventure gamer, the first things that attract me in a game are the story and the music. prince of persia beeing and action-adventure game, the gameplay is responsible for getting these two main elements together.

i got really excited when i first found out that the prince of persia was beeing resurected, because the storry was good (as a fantasy and childish as it was back in the old days) and with the modern tech and with some inovating and good ideas it could really get be a game of the year title. i wasn't wrong, the game came out as a sparkling jewel and it's a game that every gamer should play, and every colectionist should have in his/hers collection.

the story

well, we have here a masterpiece. the storyline twists and turns, as what we first know as beeing a friend turns out to be the enemy, and the twists of events are revealing to the gamer bits and pieces of information as the end of the game comes near, the story is beautyfuly exposed and the gamer can understand the plot of the story and the reasons of the prince. the evolution of the prince since the first title is remarcable: he's become a tomented soul searching to undo his past actions so that the ones he loves can live, and the way he speaks, the sound of his voice, what he speaks, all these reveal a new prince, a prince that has nothing to lose and that's what gives him strength and will to find a way to finish his quest.

the storry is filled with lonelyness for the prince, and this has made him mature. he is no longer the young and the childish prince that we knew in the sands of time. the look on his face is that of a mature man, knowing that this quest is all he has left.

the music

excelent. marks the road of the prince in his quest in a remarcable way. heavy metal sounds with a touch of asian flavour, it gets deep into your mind and bings very good with the story and the princes's torrments.

i stand alone and straight out of line (performed by godsmack) was choosed perfectly for the main theme for this game. begining with the lyrics and ending with the metal sound, the song is a map for the prince's feelings and the overall feeling of the game.

overall

the story has 2 endings (yep, i spoiled it for the ones who haven't played the game yet) but you have to play it to see what the endings are :D

at any moment, you can go anywhere on the map, even if sometimes it gets difficult to find the way. taking out the arcade elements in the game, the game is almost perfect. considering the arcade elements, it gets a bit more challenging and re-playability, even if the artwork unlocking hunt is sorta frustrating sometimes..

in my opinion the game is excelent balanced, and has a lot to offer. it's like reading a book but being able to see the characters/enviroments, feeling the music, and getting really into the game after the few minutes.

my rate

i give it a 9/10 and i encourage everyone to try it.

I would recommend that after you're done with this you try:

'How to Use Punctuation and Capital Letters'

Actually, after finally getting my hands on the game quite some time after reading all the reviews and comments bashing it, I was very surprised how good it was. From the music (the softer bits in particular) to the gameplay (with exception of some later bosses), storyline, graphics and atmosphere in general. I'll tell you this: I can only hope Zelda TP will look as good as stuff like some of the garden sections, or the wooden bridge outside the mechanical tower.

No, I can't imagine anyone but the most jaded old cunts looking at this game and going "ugh! yech!".

Well i've not played WW, but i've played Two thrones (Which is supposed to be better), and it sucks.

Unskippable cut scense and that awful chariot racing bit.. no thanks!

7 out of 10 would be more accurate, it looks nice and has nice flourishes but the bosses are just annoying and its nowhere near as 'fun' as SOT. There's something about it that irritates me quite a lot. But at least he bothered to write a review about it; everyone is entitled to an opinion.

:) Flying_pig, i don't like using capital letters. sorry if my english isn't good enough all the way, i don't have the opportunity to speak/write in english as much as i'd like.

to all the others, this is my opinion of this game, and for those that hadn't played all the games in the series i don't know what to say. this game is more than just gameplay, if you don't follow the story then more than half of the fun is lost.. and here it's a question of tastes, because some may like it some don't.. i exposed my opinion here and i tried to share it with the community.

why i gave it 9 out of 10? here's how i rated it:

music: 10
storyline: 10 (because of the way the prince has evolved, in detail, after the first game)
speech: 9
level design: 8
dificulty: 6
gameplay: 9 (i find it very fluid and sometimes i start the game just to kill some sand creatures)
overall feeling: 10

do the math(although it's not just math when i give a score) the result is 8.8 and i gave the game a 9 because i, personally, like it :)

thanks for the comments guys :) i apreciate it and i'll be writing more soon, cheers!

Look, I'm sorry buit that's just like saying "hey guys, I don't like using the letter e."

It dosn't rally mattr whthr you "lik it" or not, you'r writing in nglish and lik any languag, it has crtain ruls that make it "nglish". Ths ruls ar in plac so that othr popl can rad it proprly.

Found that sort of annoying to rad? Wll hy, you can still gt th maning so don't complain, I just don't lik using th lttr "e", ok?

i'm sorry too, but what you're saying is not the same :) i've studied english for a few years, and the only rule about using capital letters (not talking about names here) is the I. i don't know any other meaning to this word if it's written i and not I. i'm not trying to confuse or mislead anyone, it's just that i like writing in small caps.

sorry, but i find your point useless. blame my english if you can't understand what i'm saying, but don't come up with examples like that because it's just not the same.

I guess you think it shows your personality, that it somehow identifies and distinguishes you from the masses. Well, it doesn't. It just makes you look like an AOL user.

sorry, this is the second time that i quote you dude, and it's not that i have something against you.. i'm sorry for my typographical mistakes and my expresivity, but as i said before, my english isn't that good and i want to improve it.

:) i'll say it now, and this is for all that shall read my reviews: if you don't like it, don't read it.. i'm not trying to show off my personality here, this is all about the games.. yet, this is going on about how to write corectly.. well.. if you can read what i write then it's all green for me.. if you can understand what i write, then it's all shiny for you and me. if you can't read, so much understand what i write, go play SIMS or something..

laterz`

ps: AOL sux, shh.. don't tell anyone ;)

See, I don't really care about typos, they're just keyboard accidents. Happens to anybody including me, and I'll never say a word about them. Same goes if somebody just isn't very good at grammar and spelling period, it's not their fault. But you're writing like an AOL'er on purpose, admitting to it and then defending the practice too. And that's the reason this thread has gotten out of hand like it has.

@pitchshifter: Yeah, it's just a forum, and these posts take very little time to type, so it's not like I'm making a huge personal investment. :p

It's a shame that what could have been a quite good article was spoiled by a lack of basic English and poor spelling. Before anyone writes in baying for my blood remember that there are no end of "Spellcheck" facilities available on the internet.
It also proves my theory that Eurogamer don't actually proof-read any Reader Reviews before publishing ! [I'm available for the job, free of charge !]
I also find it strange that someone would select a game for it's music content, still, one man's meat, etc.
I have to admit I found the whole review a waste of space, there was very little actual detail given. What about use of the "Sands" or the story behind the game ?
A piss-poor attempt, could do better !
