Formula One '06 Reader Review

Story:The closest you can come to a story in a sports game is that this game has a career mode. This gives the user a chance to make a driver and race him through 5 seasons of F1 with driver changes, test driver roles and even a trophy room. The best improvement in this option is the test driver role which has been improved beyond recognision.

The test driver role used to be every 3 weeks or so you would have a lap time to beat or a consecutive lap time to beat a three laps. If you make three tests then you get premoted. Now however you will have your season split into two and have 18+ tests each half-season. These can be anything from beat this lap time, but we will give you 10 laps to do it, like in real life, or 3 laps but we will give you 5 to do it or the evaluation tests which are the most demanding which you have to set 3 laps conceutivly and beating the lap time and then with a real-life change, such as Tyre wear or fuel consumtion or wet-weather setup. And do another three laps. There is also team ability tests where you have to beat your team mates time.

Apart from testing the biggest change is that you have real commentary in carreer mode. This used to get on rapid players nerves as they would rather play a season event instead just to have commentairy.

Music:It doesn't have music, but it does have sound. The commentairy on the race has been improved. Also the sound for the cars has changed and is much more realistic. Sports games normally concentraite on the comentairy and that really comes across in this game and the sound is as good as it could be.

Graphics:Grafics are very good for the PS2 and PSP versions respecivly. The grafics for the PSP are very impressive for a handheld game. The PS2 has some nice features with the grafics. There are some bugs with the grafics. Every time a wheel touches something it starts to wobble. This is very annoying and does nothing to the speed of the car.

Game Play:The game play in this game is very good. It is a lo better than some of the ones before it. The only problem with the game is the sheer amount of bugs in the game. I had this game only for a week and it erased my membory card. This really p***ed me off.

much better for the hardcore fan but watch out for the bugs.
