Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Reader Review

If only.... if only more games were like this. Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney brings you into a story as a rookie defense attorney trying to prove his worth against criminal masterminds. You spend time doing investigative work like exploring crime scenes for evidence and in the courtroom itself trying to get the right verdict. The trouble with this is you'll be up against a prosecutor so if you don't provide suffecient evidence the Judge will find your client guilty. While investigating you have four main commands at your disposal. These being examine, move, talk and present. You choose these commands via the touch screen. You will have to combine all these methods to find the answers.

The game features many varied characters from the funny and likeable Detective Gumshoe to the massively annoying prosecutor by the name of Mr. Von Karma there are many characters you will encounter throughout the story. This is one of the many things that makes this game so great. The story. Which has been implemented very well, as well as getting the varied characters the text is well written and it will make you laugh more than once. Considering this game is of Japenese origin the translators have done a fantastic job of converting it this well. The anime style graphics also suit the game to a tee from Phoenix pointing his finger with authority to a bemused judge, the graphics capture the emotion of the game along with the music which is excellent by the way. It fires up when your'e close to uncovering the truth which really intensifies the atmosphere of the game.

You will also spend time in the courtroom. Here you will listen to witness's tetominies and dissect them apart with the evidence you have gathered. There really is nothing like yelling "Objection" into the mic and then the music firing up as the witness begins to break under the pressure. A word of warning though obviously you can't go yelling objection every ten seconds and have to be careful when and where you choose to say it. Get the timing wrong and you will be penalised. You've got five chances, screw it up and the judge will give a guilty verdict. You will really have to use logic and perseverance to succeed in this game. It may become frustrating at times but that's what makes it so immensely satisfying when you finally nail that case and send the lying bastard to jail.

You may have read this and thought what so your saying a game where you have to use your brain is actually good? That's exactly my point my fellow gamers, you don't have to go around shooting goons to enjoy a game. This requires your time and effort but put it in and what you get is an extremely satisfying game that has great quirks, laughs, shocks and many more things to uncover along the way. Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney is one of the best games you can buy for your Nintendo DS and shows an unprecedented amount of originality which you won't find anywhere else and that alone makes it worth playing. I rest my case.
