It's the 4 player online co-op game that swings it for me. must trade in some games to get this on the cheap.

So is the 'get hit, rest and you're fine again' mechanic going to take over every new game? I find it can pull me out of the experience a bit which is fine in Gears but seems odd in this. I'm all for shouting swear words at the telly less though (during gaming, I'll always shout at the fools on 'I'm a fame addict make me eat maggots'). Thoughts?

You're a strange one sometimes Krud. The two pages made me think this was a potential GotY and then the last page pulls the rug from under my expectations!! :)
With Viva, GoW, Tiger Woods (still loads to do) and Pro Evo (barely played) to get through. This has got 'January' written all over it. But then again, Lost Planet and Bioshock are out then.... |

Odd that they decided to start the game in Mexico, rather than Vegas. I kinda expected it to start off with a bang in Vegas, go off elsewhere for some missions mid-game then return back to Vegas at the end for the finale.
As for the "get hit, rest and you're fine again" mechanic, much rather that than go on tedious healthkit hunts all the time. As the review rightly mentions, it also encourages you to take risks and try out different things. I'll be picking it up - the coop was the deal clincher for me. |

I want this game. I enjoyed the demo a lot and thanks to the region-free games and Play Asia's prices the game seems even more attractive. Just a question of time now. I still have to finish Ridge Racer 6 and Gears of War (although I cannot be bothered to). And Fear, Call of Duty 3 and Viva Pinata should arrive today too.

@samk: I agree about the recharging health. Giving the player the possibility to try out things without risking his life everytime really enhances the gameplay. If I died everytime I tried something I would be really discouraged to try anything out at all and play just by the rules. Which could get boring after quite a while.

the "single player campaign" online co-op is absolutily great,
i loved the fact that i could do serious sam in co-op frenzy absolutely wonderfull. there should be a lot more games where this is possible. thinking of getting a 360 when the ps3 launches in europe, hoping for a pricedrop. offtopic/ find the 360 still to expansive if you want to use live. euro 399 for xbox euro 69 for wifi euro 39 for extra controller euro 55 for game ------------------- thats 550 + euro's |

@ mazzl in relation to it's competitors the 360 is reasonably priced.
For Wii and PS3 you would still have to pull out money for new controllers and extra games. I do agree that this generation of consoles all should have Wifi as standard, I have a wireless adapter but would prefer it to be built into the 360 for aesthetic reasons alone, never mind the extra cost!!! |

Good review, Krudster.
One slight quibble, though. You mention that ranking up in multiplayer gives you access to equipment that "gives you the edge" in combat. I thought the devs had specifically balanced it so ranking up gives you gear that opens up more styles of play, rather than giving you "better" weapons etc. Cheers

If Vegas is a 6/10 I'm Elvis Presley.
Uh huh huh. I suspected that the reason it got a 6 is because, reviewing it so early, they wouldn't have had a chance to play it on Live. But you think it's worth more than a 6 easily even in single player. So their review's just bollocks, basically. They also gave RS3 a 6, as I recall.
