I'm really looking forward to this... It was previewed months ago but then disappeared off the radar (!).
Glad to hear it's developing well. have they got a release date?

It reminds me of an old (Amiga, I think) game called Carrier Command.. can anyone remember that?

This thing has been in development forever, it seems. Last I heard it was coming out in February 2007.

I've been following this game for a while, and being a fan of flight sims, it's been showing some promise.

I'm a little frustrated at how long it's been in development though - is it now next-gen only? I was looking forward to it's release on PS2 and Xbox sometime in the last 12 months ¬_¬

Anyways, it's looking pretty decent, and I hope it lives up to the potential.

Fingers crossed it turns out good as the 360 does not really have anything like this.

The video on Live put the release date in Feb 2007.

The original developer went bust I think, and the whole project was sort of rescued and turned into an internal 'Eidos Hungary' studio as far as I can tell.

Ohh very nice new cinematic trailer of this on Eurogamer TV.

It actually gives a good idea of some of the challenge missions as the one they are showing is sinking the Yamamoto (the biggest battle ship ever) which they say took 300 planes in real life and it sounds like the challenge is to see if you can do it with less.

That actually sounds pretty cool.

Sounds like the Koei PTO games, but less stat heavy. What's a grognard by the way? I hope I'm not one.

This has been ages in making hasn't it? I'm sure I was reading previews in PCGamer a few years ago.

Yep, I remember Carrier Command. I remember being impressed by doing little things that I'd never been able to do before, such as launch a secondary craft and be able to see "myself" (the main carrier) from another perspective...

I think I still have a shload of old Amiga games on floppy, as a matter of fact...

Yes, it has been in development for a long, long time. I'd be going out on a limb if I try to name exactly when I first heard of it, but it may have been as long ago as 2000 - 2001.

I've not heard of the developer (Mithis) going under, but I do see that their website is gone. (It was still there a few months ago.)

This game is one of the prime reasons why I as a non-PC-owning gamer finally bought an Xbox 360. I'm a little bit worried that the game as it stands seem like a fairly watered-down version of the original concept, but I still hope that it'll turn out OK.

Let's say I can't sink the Yamamoto with fewer than 300 planes... can I see them all on screen at the same time?

Gameplay footage looks nice - did remind of Carrier Command - selecting aircraft and loadout and seeing it come to the deck... nice. Also, if you can just give a load of non-player controlled craft orders, then hop in and take command of whichever craft you want, with your pre-set strategy unfolding around you, this sounds nice - depth without being overly beardy.

The water! how beautiful!
