EG rocks with Pixie Lott at GH5 launch News

PlayStation 2 Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Johnny Minkley

11 September, 2009

Fresh from headlining the Cavern Club on Tuesday night, the Eurogamer Super Group was back on stage this morning with Essex songstress Pixie Lott, to kick off a Guinness World Record attempt marking the launch of Guitar Hero 5.

The event, overseen by an official Guinness adjudicator, began at 11am in HMV's flagship store at 150 Oxford Street, London, with France, Italy, Spain, Holland and Sweden running sessions simultaneously to find the territory which can produce the greatest number of players over the next 24 hours using the game's 'jump in, jump out' Party Play mode.

Clearly Lott had been made aware of Eurogamer's god-given talent at making fools of ourselves, so she bottled it on the singing, electing instead to wield the plastic axe while EG wailed its way through Blur's "Song 2", half-blinded by incessantly flashing paparazzi lights - none of which, amazingly, was aimed at us.

18 year-old Lott, whose second single, "Boys And Girls", is expected to top the UK charts this weekend, then quit the stage to allow punters the chance to help set the record. If you fancy taking part yourself, you can just turn up at the store before 7pm this evening. Apparently you get a certificate and everything.

Watch out for the action, plus a chat on the tour bus with Pixie, on EGTV early next week. Guitar Hero 5 released for PS3, PS2, 360 and Wii today, and we think it's rather wonderful.

I was in there earlier on. I had to laugh at the random tourists they'd grabbed to participate trying to sing Rammstein's Du Hast.

Great! I just checked, and sure enough, that completed my quota of non-news I actually bother to comment on, this week.

Anything else of disinterest appears over the weekend, and...well, I don't want to overdo it.

"Billboard.com described her as the first British female solo artist to debut atop the singles chart in her native country not to be launched off a (reality) television programme with her debut single."

When you have to describe an achievement with so many different conditions it's really not that impressive.

Is this article suppose to be advertising GH5, Pixie Lott or is it just EG boasting about standing next to someone who is apparently famous?

lol @ people saying she has no talent just because they haven't heard of her. Seriously, go look up some of her acoustic live performances. She has talent. Not to mention that she would get it, obv.

Yeah in fairness, while her music isn't my cup of tea, the girl can certainly sing. Obviously she'd get it too.

Since when has just being able to sing meant that someone is deserving of being a pop star. She is no more talented than the hundreds of drones that pop up on X-Factor every week, the only difference being that she is so unbelievably heavily marketed and promoted that EVERYONE knows who she is, despite that fact that pretty much nobody can name a song she has done.

Every time I turn the TV on, open the paper or listen to the radio, there she is. Someone somewhere is making an absolute packet out of all of this. TBH I wish she would take her manufactured kiddie pop, carefully styled image, promotional interviews and entourage of shady record execs, stylists, publicists, hitmakers and gossip columnists and just FUCK OFF. Its like a throwback to the bad old days of constant streams of manufactured chart crap in the 90s.

Single piece of interesting information off that wiki bio: apparently she's 'the first British female solo artist to debut atop the singles chart in her native country not to be launched off a (reality) television programme'. Presumably that's since reality television programmes came to prominence.

What a strange world we live in.
