EA's Xbox Live rebate deal extended

Get your money back in early Feb.

EA's explained to Eurogamer that Xbox Live users awaiting an 800 MSP bonus (offered as part of a Christmas 'buy our stuff' campaign) will be credited when the promotion has finished.

The closing date had been today, but an EA spokesperson said the campaign has now been extended until end of January. This means the "likely" bonus-giving period is early February.

EA's campaign offers an 800 MSP rebate to any Xbox Live user buying three pieces or more of selected EA content. This ranges from full games like Mass Effect to downloadable content and XBLA games like Boom Boom Rocket. A full list can be found on the dedicated EA web-page.

EA's spokesperson also highlighted the terms and conditions all whom participate agree to. They read: "The free Points will be automatically deposited into your Xbox LIVE account after the end of the promotion period. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery."

Attention was drawn to the promotion when participants expecting an instant rebate were inevitably disappointed. Readers wrote to Eurogamer when forum threads asking for an explanation went missing.

    I bought BF1943 for 560ms (bargain!) but I probably won't buy any others. They appear to be either shovelware or addons for games I don't have.

    Um is anyone seriously stupid enough to spend around 1600 points just to get back 800? If so I'm making a loyale to the death minion army that you may want to join. At the end of your loyale to-the-death service I'll give you some microsoft points.

    Have noticed both list Boom Boom Rocket as 560 points, while the marketplace shows it as 800 points. Anyone know if the price is due to go down soon?

    I also bought BF1943 for 560ms, but not really interested in anything else. But I can always buy now the 2 Mass Effect DLCs and get the 800 points back so it's essentially free...

    ...Or perhaps buy Boom Boom Rocket and C&C Commander’s Challenge, which will cost me 560 points for both games after the rebate. I'm still not sure if it will be worth it though...

    @gulmer:

    You say it's "essentially free" but remember you can't get a refund on your points, so unless you were going to purchase something else anyway, it's a nice way of getting money out of you.

    If the stuff is worth buying - why not? You're in effect buying 2 getting 1 free. No different to a supermarket promotion
