EA's new Marvel fighter

Fight Night team creating it.

EA has announced it will be making a fighting game for PS3 and Xbox 360 using the Marvel superhero licence.

It will be created internally at the Chicago office - responsible for the Fight Night series and Def Jam: Icon - and will be released towards the end of next year.

"We're challenging ourselves to make a game that delivers on the Super Hero promises of past top-tier fighting games," said Kudo Tsunoda, big cheese at EA Chicago.

"Featuring a great all-star line-up of Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains with incredible powers that are authentic to the fiction, huge environments and a living world that keeps the gameplay fresh, every battle will be unique; every battle will be like a first edition."

Gameplay details and a name are yet to be confirmed, but it sounds promising. We'll keep our eyes peeled for more.

Could be absolutely top-notch. As much as I dislike EA, that studio has a reputation for making excellent fighting games.

I'm trying to look for any indication of sarcasm in that comment...

I hope its as good as Rise of the Imperfects and Def Jam: Icon.

Beat em ups just cant be too slow, in my opinion.

Hope it actually cashes in on the abilities - not a couple of guys on either side of a screen hitting each other but something on the level of a whole city with two heroes kicking the crap out of each other and everything else.

There is no point if it doesn't have gun's, gangstas & hoo's.

It's bound to be poor, as they have to level the playing field and make all the characters basically the same, so even those who don't have any kind of physical/strength powers can still damage the hulk with a punch.

Most superheo match-ups are foregone conclusions (on paper), unless there are specific narrative reasons for an upset, which would hardly make for a good fighting game.

    "hoo's"

:) Made me laugh for some reason

It has potential... I'm not holding my breath though. 2D superhero fighting = good. 3D = bad.

    @rhinoxious

I seem to remember in one Spiderman, he says that all the heroes watch the others for weaknesses, incase they need to fight them one day. It'd be fairly awesome if a game capitalized on that and specialized the characters' moves (or just their specials) based on who they were fighting.

    Doubt it'll ever happen though!

A Marvel-themed cross between Crackdown and War of the Monsters would make me fap like a gibbon.

Well, colour me deluded then... I love me 3D fighters, but, yes, KoF, SF and even Guilty Gear games will always remain entrenched in my heart for a good reason.

Very true. I also see this knee jerk reaction a lot, but the truth is that EA has a very decent selection of original games. I just wish they were the norm and not the exception, they have a tendency to milk the franchises.

    "Oh and f*ck 2D fighters."

    Fuck you too, ignorant ass.

    Sincerely yours.
