Interplay has revealed that the first of its brand revivals will be Earthworm Jim.
The fourth instalment in the series is little more than concept at the moment and has no dates or platforms associated with it.
However, Earthworm Jim creator Douglas TenNapel will be on hand as a creative consultant, while simultaneously developing an animated feature film to help expand the brand.
Earthworm Jim first wriggled in front of our eyes in 1994 on the Megadrive. This space-faring worm in control of a powerful human-shaped suit had to platform his way across planets and zap baddies with his ray-gun. Its tongue-in-cheek charm soon spawned numerous sequels, including one on N64 and one on GameBoy Colour.
TenNapel was also responsible for an Earthworm Jim cartoon series on the telly that ran from 1995 to 1996.
Interplay revealed that Earthworm Jim would be one of its revival targets in early April, alongside Dark Alliance, Descent and MDK brands.
The publisher hopes to return to former glory by using the money gained from selling the Fallout IP to restart its internal development engine.

I would like a new EMJ game, but only in 2D, I don't like the idea of 3D jim.
The Cartoon was awsome though, if the were to bring that back although the probaly wouldn't have the same writers that made it so good in the first place anyway, /brought to you by Psycrow's School for Super Villians

Why oh Why oh Why...
Whats the point in trying to bring back a series which was only successful in the 90's. Surely developers know by now that old titles/franchises that are brought to the current gen are never as popular as the originals and are never as good as everyone remembers them to be. Leave it to rest... |

Yeah, sadly, that's what I see, call me cynical. But I'm going to root for the game anyway coz Jim used to be so cool. Hopefully they'll release the first two on XBLA. |

I have to agree that a 3D version wouldn't work and I too have the vision of it having loads of glitches and a crup camera, if it were to be in 3D, but the return of the awesome Jim sounds great to me having originally played it on a SNES.
I would also like to see the original game put on XBLA, in fact, i've been waiting for it to be annouced on there since I got my 360, and now my dream may come true... being able to finally play the "groovy" scene in HD everytime a level is completed , hitting a button on the controller as quickly as possible to get Jim to keep saying "gr..gr...gr..gr..gr.." and laugh at his cartoony face! those good ol' days! |
