Earthworm Jim out now on PSN

Plus: Premier Manager! Flower demo!

Hello and welcome to our amazingly late recap of what's on the PlayStation Store this week.

Star attractions are Earthworm Jim HD and newcomer Premier Manager. The latter's been made by urbanscan and costs £14. It's exclusive to PSN and features an XMB-style menu and dot-based match engine. Accessibility is the key word.

There's a video and some blurb about Premier Manager on the European PlayStation blog.

Three new Minis, all from Bigben, arrive this week. They are Tetraminos, Labyrinth and Brick Breaker. They're twists on popular old classics and may whittle away an hour or two.

Demos this week are Madden NFL 11 and Flower for PS3. The latter is the strikingly beautiful PSN game by thatgamecompany, and is certainly worth a try. Originally released in February 2009, Flower earned 8/10 on Eurogamer.

On PSP, meanwhile, there's a demo for Worms: Battle Island.

Lost Planet 2's new Rush Arena is available to download this week, as is a suspiciously named Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 extra called "The Predator". No idea why that caught our eye.

On top of all that, PlayStation Home has welcomed wings, and the Digital Comics Store now bulges with fresh reads.

The Madden 11 demo was terrific on the 360 but the PS3 version suffers from lots of stuttering, juddering and hitching, which used to affect the earlier games funnily enough but seems to be fixed in the 360 build I tried. It really does ruin the flow of the game which is otherwise excellent IMO. I know which version I'll be buying...

Any idea what Premier Manager is like?
  • chibber23 #4 2 years ago

Premier Manager is OK, nothing special but not awful... Does remind me of old school Prem Manager on the Mega Drive only with slightly more awkward controls. I'd give it a 6/10 - I only got it because I'll be without my PC for a few months and wanted a management game.

I still think there should be these kind of roundups for the Xbox Live marketplace, as well as for the PSN. Especially since the content is often very similar.

Tempted by Premier manager. Supposed to get an update with the latest transfers at the end of the transfer window. Doesn't sound like it's directly anything to do with the prem managers of old, but some staff members are involved with the new game.

In reality it's the only management game on the System (bar manager mode in fifa, pes and the champ man mini)

Can we change the headline to "Earthworm Jim out two days ago on PSN"? They update the store on Wednesdays now guys. Also, +1 for a similar 360 marketplace update. Cheers :)

Hasn't flower been out for a while? Why release a demo now?

Couldn't take to the controls in Earthworm Jim HD, glad I only got the trail.

    Pretty though.

EWJ HD is a bit of a let-down. The first stage contains the extra bit from the special edition but that's the only bit from the special edition they included. No extra bits in 'What the Heck?', the hidden level where you play in the dark is missing from Level 5 and the 'Big Bruty' level didn't get included. Yeah it looks nice and everything but it's incomplete and the 3 new levels are a bit uninspired. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet.

I've been waiting for a Flower demo since forever ago! And it's very cool!

The Super Street Fighter IV Costume pack is this the absolute complete pack of costumes that were released in batches in the last few months, can anyone clarify this?

If what mr_writer is saying comes true it could be one hell of a PSN exclusive... its serviceable now but with updates, DLC and Mods it could become a great little game
