Earn Rep for gutsy MotoGP 09/10 riding News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

12 November, 2009

MotoGP 09/10 will feature a new Rider Reputation point system to reward the gutsy Mavericks among you.

Points are awarded for overtaking, slipstreaming and showboating, and result in new manufacturers, sponsors and employees taking up your Career cause. However, crashing and colliding have the opposite effect, so deciding what those Reputation points are worth will be an ongoing dilemma.

Joining the Career mode in MotoGP 09/10 will be an "all-new" Arcade mode based on challenges and time extends. There's also split-screen, online multiplayer and all the tracks, riders and locations you expect of the real-life sport.

Monumental Games is the studio at the handlebars, and Capcom has a released pencilled for March 2010.

There's a new MotoGP 09/10 trailer to watch as well as a batch of screenshots to peruse.

I am one of the fortunate ones that have played the earlier MotoGP games developed by Climax.Since the franchise was taken over by Capcom the games have been rubbish.

I thought that the Capcom Moto GP games were a completely separate product and had nothing to do with the Climax games?

Agree that the Climax Moto GP games were most excellent. The sim/playability balance was spot on.

Ahhhh, that explains things. I was going to comment about this series looking quite nice as I recall, but these screens and trailer looking damn ugly.

@Mono_X

I know the franchises were completely seperate on XBox and PS2 (with Climax doing the XBox version). I guess they have merged under the helm of Capcom and gone cross platform.

@ Toothball - I agree mate, sounds like a complete rip off of Bizarre Creations fantastic Kudos system in PGR. Doubt it'll be as good though.

This series seems to have gone right down the pan since Climax stopped coding it. MotoGP 07 was great and packed with tracks, including arcade ones. MotoGP 08 on the other hand was a step backwards with worse graphics that were glitchy and half the track count, all wrapped up in bland presentation. I traded it in weeks after buying it but still have MotoGP 07. Unless MotoGP 09/10 is a significant improvement in every way then I'm not interested in it at all. Period.

And SBK '09 wasn't much better either... picked that up cheap for the PC, cheap being a good description of the game itself actually. Not that it's awful you see, it just feels like a game that been churned out off a production line with little or no love for the subject matter.

Some of the people that worked on the early Climax games are now working on this version.

It's in good hands I would say.

@Darren: Really? I thought SBK09 was ten times more lively than SBK08. Both good racing games that do what they set out to do, and remind me of the heyday of racing games when you could have a game based around just one championship or series rather than gruesomely trying to cram as many as possible in *coughGRIDDIRTcough*

I initially thought "since when did EG start putting the review scores in the headline?!" before I realised my idiocy.
