EA unveils Tiberium News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Tom Bramwell

18 December, 2007

Electronic Arts has officially unveiled Command & Conquer first-person shooter Tiberium, due out on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in autumn 2008.

Developed by EA Los Angeles, Tiberium is a tactical FPS in which players control Forward Battle Commander Ricardo Vega, who must control infantry, armour and air squads to combat "a global crisis".

That crisis seems to be linked to an alien tower, standing over a wasteland where the Mediterranean used to be, which had been thought to be a relic of the Third Tiberium War but actually turns out to be some sort of staging post for an alien invasion. Ooh.

Vega will be able to call on a transforming personal weapon system, multi-launch homing missiles, capital ship bombardments and tactical ion cannon strikes in an effort to sort things out, says EA.

There will be single- and multi-player modes, with executive producer Chris Plummer claiming that the team hopes to evolve the tactical shoot-'em-up "by taking core gameplay compulsions like commanding, choice and dominating your enemies and delivering them in first-person".

wow sounds like a really exciting one man army with loads of absurd weapons and really amazing support fire.
not .. sounds like another diluted franchise, milked for yearly updates, and probably crap. 6/10 I reckon.

Also. .what a crap time to announce it. Fucking December.. dumbasses.

So despite all the tactical stuff, multiplayer will be TDM and a CTF varient.

@NthSimulachum

Deja vu anyone?

My thoughts exactly - no doubt we can expect to see Tiberium sometime in 2013, still running on a 2006 game engine, if Renegade was anything to go by.

Sounds like there's the slim chance it could actually be a spiritual successor to Battlezone, which would be awesome in a very awesome way.

Vega? Wasn't that one of the minor commanders in Tiberian Sun?

Anyway, it might be a good game after all. I'm one of the 5 people that actually enjoyed Renegade...
