EA to expand BF2142

With Northern Strike.

EA has announced a booster pack for futuristic online shooter Battlefield 2142.

Northern Strike takes place in mainland Europe, as the war for hospitable Earth rages between the European Union and the Pan-Asian Coalition.

You can expect three new maps: Bridge at Remagen, Port Bavaria, and Liberation of Leipzig.

EU forces will get a new heavily armed IFV Goliath vehicle, and PAC armies will receive a hovering IFV Hachimoto. On top of this there will be new unlocks, badges, ribbons, and gameplay.

"Our number one goal with Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike was to give fans more of the close-quarters combat, increased persistence and new toys they've been asking for," said Kristoffer Bergqvist, the booster pack's producer, who doesn't appear to be able to count. "We've also added gameplay enhancements including two brand new vehicle types in an asymmetrical set-up."

"Furthermore, we're introducing the Titan game mode available into an urban setting and will debut the intensified Conquest Assault Lines game mode."

The game is slated for release in March. Head over to Eurogamer TV for the latest trailer, or to our gallery for the new screenshots.

An expansion for a game which felt more like an expansion itself? EA are outdoing themselves.

EA is just the publisher, im guessing that Dice would have done this anyway, perhaps they would'nt have charged for it but eh its not exactly expensive.

Ive been getting back into 2142, its running alot better now after the patches, plus the community seems to have solidified with less idiots running about.

What I love about Battlefield is the freedom to apprach any target in anyway you want. Thing is when your defending the same goes you can expect attacks from anywhere. You'll never find a server where someone is invincible, unlike Counter Strike or smaller games.

Wrong! I have played BF2 to death and I am currently playing BF2142 to death. There is much to enjoy with this game. The squad based team play is unsurpassed IMO and the game is a worthy successor to the previous titles in the series. The unlocks and ranking system adds great lasting value and is improved upon BF2s. It's not just another Battlefield Vietnam.

PS - The awful demo is not representative of the final (and patched) excellent game.

PPS - Saying it felt like an expansion is like saying UT2007 is an expansion of UT2004 etc etc...

You're right there. This game plays a LOT better than BF2 & is a lot more fun. Not being constantly spawn raped by heilos for instance. I'll probably get the booster if it's just a few quid.

BF2 really put me off ever buying another Dice game. What a buggy pile of poo. You lot are starting to make me consider this though. Perhaps when it hits the bargain bin... ;)

I might pick this up but I wish these "booster" packs were free like for UT. Thing is you buy them then you might not like them and you have to play on servers with only these 3 maps on which can become boring after a while once the initial excitement at playing the new maps dies down.

It's happened with all the booster packs so far in BF2. They need to integrate the maps with the current maps so we can all play them and make them free.

Agree tho that BF2142 is much more enjoyable than BF2. I liked the atmosphere and setting of BF2 but the jets and attack choppers ruined it for me. BF2142 is much more balanced and enjoyable, you can actually last a long time in an APC or tank now. It also rewards teamplay much more than BF2 ever did.

play.com have a page up for Northern Strike already. £14.99 to hell with paying that for a bloody booster. Pervious Battlefield disc expansions had alot more content than this.

Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope...

Battlefield 1982 Northern Strike: Yorkshire Miners vs. Metropolitan Police?

Anyone know anything about this new gamemode or the new unlocks? Add something like UT2004 onslaught mode, where the forward bases rely on the rear bases being defended too, plus a light sniper rifle with faster cycle rate and I might be interested.

did it even sell that well? I saw it for a tenner only a few weeks after it was released in GAME.

absolutezero don't dare say that EA don't have a big influence on what DICE do, satan has both EA and DICE in his pockets and he's making MONEY.

unfortunately..missing out the good game bit.

    What does "increased persistence" mean?
