EA talks about Tiger Woods '09 News

PlayStation 2 PSP Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

2 May, 2008

EA has popped up plenty of information about what will be in the 2009 Tiger Woods golf game.

PS3, 360 and Wii versions will all have coach Hank Haney on hand to help you and give you feedback and training drills based on your performance in competitions.

You will be able to use a Club Tuner to customise your stick collection, and your created characters will match your skill level so you're not always starting completely from scratch. Your skills will both increase and decrease depending on how you do throughout your career, though.

Online you can play simultaneously with up to three of your chums; you see their shots superimposed next to yours, but there is less waiting around to do.

PS3 and 360 versions let you challenge your friends to things like who has the longest drive or who can get closes to the pin on GamerNet, plus you can record it all and leave it on loop at parties or something like that.

Meanwhile, the Wii has its wacky motion-sensing controls that you can adjust to your skill level, presumably turning the stabilisers off if you are a pro sofa-golfer.

It also has its signature mini-game Party mode for you and your family. Or friends. But probably family.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 is due out in August on 360, PS3, PS2, PSP and Wii.

I hope the Wii version will finally be the killer-app it should be. One-for-one golf complete with the PGA gubbings would be lovely

Absolutely agree kincaide. Really, why haven't the devs realised yet? The only thing they need to do is take Wii Sports Golf, change the hook/slice mechanic so it's linked to your swing rather than random, and add a bunch of courses. That's it. The game would then be, to all intents and porpoises, perfect, and I'd probably die of starvation, but with enormous arm muscles.

Recently picked up 08 on 360 nice and cheap, and it's certainly the best Tiger Woods game yet.

06 was dire. 07 an impovement, the game face creator using either the LIVE camera or an uploaded photo is scarily realistic, and far easier and quicker than adjusting slider bars and twiddling two sticks around, so I hope they keep that in.

Everybody's Golf World Tour is going to take some beating. I prefer it to any Tiger Woods game.

Wow! EA are stooping to an all time low, copying basic features like simultaeneous play that was in Links 2004 on the original xbox. really innovative move!

To be fair, all the tiger woods since 03/04 have been utter tripe. If they would have let more Links games be made then the world would be a better place! Bring back XSN sports i say! Especially rallisport series, they were ace!

EA - we're not going to spin annual updates out as we want to concentrate on quality

Oh.. other than when you know.. we change our minds so chaps expect annual updates on all our sports games, most FPS games and probably most driving games once we hammer criterion a bit more.

I bet they have a meeting to come up with new ideas and then work out which need to go in this release, this in the next release and this in the one after.
Money grabbing toss bag shites.

I wonder if the Wii version will have online play & better graphics than the PS2 this time...

To be honest I couldn't give a flying fuck about online play or graphical quality as long as they get the basic swing mechanics right and include a decent variety of courses. They'd be nice to have, but way, way down the list of priorities.
