EA/Starbreeze trademark Syndicate

But what could this mean?

Swedish developer Starbreeze has been spotted trademarking the name Syndicate three times.

EA's name pops-up in one of the filings, suggesting - this time with little shred of doubt - that the codenamed "Project RedLime" collaboration is a re-imagining of Syndicate.

The trademarks can be found on Superannuation.

EA signed Starbreeze Studios (The Chronicles of Riddick, The Darkness) in early 2008 to rework a major franchise for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Starbreeze had also been tinkering with a Bourne romp for EA, although the project was terminated last month. EA, however, is still "discussing" the possibility of such a game.

  • the_dudefather #2 2 years ago

    I HOPE IT'S AN FPS!

Hooray, I used to love Syndicate!
  • apolloscollapse #5 2 years ago

Awesome news! Syndicate is one of my gave games ever!!!
  • Red-Moose #6 2 years ago

Could be superb if done in a team based style like Mass Effect, less plot, more RPG and research type things.
  • metalangel #7 2 years ago

I am *persuaded* Starbreeze should do a good job of this... Here's to keeping the original three drugs (strength, perception, free will) instead of Syndicate Wars' two (attack everything and, er, attack everything)
  • cyacomini #8 2 years ago

Can we have a 're-imagining' of Magic Carpet too please?
  • matrim83 #9 2 years ago

I love Starbreeze. I do wish they were working on a new Darkness game though.
  • geeza2020 #10 2 years ago

why cant EA just resurrect Bullfrog? that way we could have another dungeon keeper too :(
  • Flabio #11 2 years ago

There's nothing stopping EA doing a new Magic Carpet or Dungeon Keeper. They own both of those IPs.
  • Stardusted #12 2 years ago

As already stated in this thread, it will probably be an FPS. And then they will remake magic carpet and it will be an FPS. And they will also re-imagine tetris and it will be an FPS...
  • Murton #13 2 years ago

If this goes down the FPS route then it better follow the path laid by Deus Ex and System Shock. Personally I'd be happy with it being a modernised version of the original.

"I love Starbreeze. I do wish they were working on a new Darkness game though."

Well 2K have confirmed a Darkness sequel, but haven't named the studio further than saying that it isn't Starbreeze. Apparently it follows directly on from the first one, which should be pretty interesting as it ended pretty conclusively. Which means a new story and new enemies, probably The Angelus if I were to make a prediction.
  • Bleedingplums #14 2 years ago

YES! I'd do anything to play a new Syndicate game. Popping zealots from the Church of the New Epoch with LR rifles were moments of pure joy.

Anyone remember the intro movie for Syndicate Wars?

    "Are you alright sir?"
"Come, let us give unto the cataclysm"
    BANG.......BANG BANG

DO IT EA/Starbreeze! If you do you can have the soul of my firstborn.

Starbreeze + Syndicate surely must = win?
  • Bleedingplums #18 2 years ago

    @Plugmonkey

YEAH! The music that kicks in with the miniguns still makes me headbang like a nutter!

    What an excellent intro movie.

Every Starbreeze employee should be forced to watch Bladerunner in the morning before starting work. And they should hire Rutger Hauer to wander around the offices threatening to snap fingers for poor performance.

I REALLY hope they don't balls it all up.

Syndicate - now that's a game which brings back some good memories. I only had a few games on the Amgia and this was one of my favourites - should I have been playing this as a kid? Anyway... I'm excited to see what Starbreeze can do.

One of my stronger memories of the MS-DOS days is using a Persuadertron on masses of people and then fire on them with a Gauss Gun.
  • jonfon #22 2 years ago

Given the news about X-Coms "reimagining" I'm a little worried.

My two favourite early 90s PC games (used to run both on a 386 with 2Mb of RAM... man i'm old). Please be good. Please be good.
  • RichyRichh77 #23 2 years ago

    @jonfon

Totally with you on that one, my initial reaction to both articles was a massive wave of nostalgic bliss... that was suddenly halted with a shudder as I realised these may turn out to be utter tripe - I really hope this doesn't turn out to be the case.

As others have commented I'd love updated versions of Magic Carpet and Dungeon Keeper and whilst their at it can't someone resurrect Chaos Engine and GODs? :-)
  • cyacomini #24 2 years ago

    From the Bullfrog Wiki

"The last titles to bear the Bullfrog logo were published in 2001. 2004 met the final end of Bullfrog when Electronic Arts combined their side studios into EA UK. In August 2009, Electronics Arts was considering revising some of Bullfrog's games for modern-day systems"

So those of us looking for Magic Carpet, Dungeon Keeper or Theme Park/Hospital there is some hope.

PS : I think Black & White was a Lionhead production rather than Bullfrog/EA.

Well this just made a shit day at work seem all the better!

    Consider me chuffed-to-bits :)

Ironically I've been playing both The Darkness and Riddick in the last week, and thinking to myself how good a job Starbreeze did.

I still have flashbacks to Atlantic Accelerator. One of my proudest gaming achievements.
  • Invisible_Cow #27 2 years ago

Syndicate = win. I hope this is good.
  • mbuff1 #28 2 years ago

Ah super news. I used to love Syndicate - my cousin had it on his PC but being a poor relation i could only source it on my Megadrive at the time, which to be truthful was crap!!

  • Xeopuppy #29 2 years ago

Yes, Syndicate, maybe they should keep it an RTS...

One of my favourite games on the Amiga, wish someone would remake Shadow of the Beast II...
  • Ged42 #30 2 years ago

This has got to have 4-player co-op, because it would be awesome.

It also has to have the Graviton gun and Satellite Rain.
  • MrCarrot #31 2 years ago

If xcom is now an FPS, what genre have EA/Starbreeze chosen for the new Syndicate? Rythm-action, maybe? Syndicate: Dance Dance Persuadertron Remix
  • webcider #32 2 years ago

I hope it will be a platformer have there ever been a cyperpunk platformer ?

    no?

    well make one dammit ..
