EA mute on LEGO Rock Band News

PC PlayStation 2 Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

6 April, 2009

EA has declined to comment on what may be accidental confirmation of LEGO Rock Band.

The evidence comes from an early set of GDC presentation slides sent to Activision for approval by Harmonix designer Dan Teasedale (and spotted by Kotaku). One of these, titled 'External Landscape', depicts a time-line of Rock Band and Guitar Hero products. And there, lo-and-behold - in-between the (presumably fiscal) years 2008 and 2009, and Rock Band PSP and Beatles games - is a block that reads "Lego".

A later slide then features a placeholder image for a "project to be announced before 9am Friday". This, presumably, was to be LEGO Rock Band.

But, of course, none of this was ever announced at GDC.

Also worth noting are the unannounced Guitar Hero games included on the slide. There's no way of knowing how much Teasedale is privy to, but GH: VH could well be Guitar Hero: Van Halen, while GH: BH may turn out to be Guitar Hero: Band Hero. These, alongside Guitar Hero: Arcade, are due out later this year according to the slide.

I'm a big fan of Rock Band, but it would have to take a stunning track list to get me playing a Lego version. I really can't be bothered with these Lego-fusion games. That said, Harmonix are pretty reliable at exporting tracks, so I'd probably take get it for playing on other versions.

It's not being made by Harmonix though.

How would Lego Rock Band be different from generic Rockband? They're talking almost exclusively about graphical changes, which must almost exclusively be a result of Lego seeing an opportunity to release some Rock Band-themed Lego sets and cash in.

Maybe you get to build your own instruments out of Lego... that would actually be kinda cool.

I'd build a cowbell.

Yeh it's because Activision are milking the Guitar Hero licence like their entire business depends upon it.

VH could equally be Vocal Hero and BH Bass Hero with tracks heavily involved in both areas.

Other than graphic images of some dead rock stars I can't see what Lego RB could have to offer over DLC

"Yeh it's because Activision are milking the Guitar Hero licence like their entire business depends upon it. "

If people are willing to spend £150 on a game with some plastic instruments, Activision will try to keep on making you re-buy it.

I know someone who has every guitar hero game, save the 80's, and he has 3 guitars, so on plastic guitars he's spent £210, if he paid list price. Plus £30 - £40 per game.
